My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

UPDATE – 24 JUNE 2014: “Hello! I am Huck, a small beagle. I weigh between 17 and 18 pounds, and Nana calls me “Little Man”. I really like other dogs, and I like people too, but I’m a little skittish. Nana believes someone was not so nice to me. It took 3 days for me to let Nana pet me and only while she petted the other dogs. It was about a week before I felt I could come looking for attention. I have been here for less than a month, and now I jump on the bed in the morning to be petted before any of the others get a chance. I am still shy about cuddling and being held. I want attention on my terms or I will try to get away from you. I still want to be close to the door of the bedroom at night, so I can get out 1st if Nana gets up for any reason. I’m learning to trust and will make a very patient person a wonderful pet given time and love.”
Huck is still unsure of new things. I don’t believe he lived in a house before now. We are still working on house training, and he is improving. He did a lot of marking when he arrived, but that is no longer an issue here.
Huck loves food, walks, and all the dog toys. He wants to be the first to get a treat. He is learning to sit on command, but his bottom won’t stay sitting for long. If he is well exercised, he will leave inappropriate things alone and will only chew his toys. If he is bored, he gets into trouble. (Typical beagle!) He loves to play with the other dogs and is always friendly. He walks well on a leash. One thing that scares him some, when he is on a leash, is going through doors. He needs encouraging with this. As long as the other dogs go with him, he will go in or out with no problem, but if he is just with me, he balks at entrances. We are working on this. I think Huck would do best in a home with another dog.

Huck is a 4- to 5-year-old male beagle who will be available for adoption after his vetting is completed needs. This tiny tike is very friendly and good with other dogs but was a stray in Louisa County, Virginia, so his history is unknown.
