Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Tito is a Dogo Argentino -- a big dog with an equally big heart. He is six years old and has had his share of upsets in life. Tito has lived in more than one home; his most recent one lasted only a few months. He weighs 100 lbs. and is very striking and impressive; however, don’t be intimidated by his size, this fellow has an eager-to-please personality and a deep affection for humans. Like all Dogos, he is a powerful dog filled with love, energy and playfulness. In spite of his enormous strength (and size), Tito is a gentle fellow who needs firm but gentle training, using only positive reinforcement. A Dogo might not be the best choice for a novice. Tito gets along with other dogs; a large breed female would best suit him. Cats are not his thing, so a feline free environment would be his preference. Since we have no real history on Tito, an adult home or one with older children would best suit him. He’s a happy-go-lucky kind of guy who is just waiting to bring pure bliss to his new family. Please fill in the Adoption Form if you would like to adopt Tito.

UPDATE: Tito is safe and sound and being fostered by one of our Volunteers who has been an awesome foster mom to several of our adoptees who required a special home over the years. However, that does not mean that we can sit back and forget about Tito -- that wouldn't be fair to Tito or his Foster MOm. Tito went out on trial for less than 24 hours; nothing tragic happened but it was definitely not the right match. The desire to adopt him was there but what we said about Tito was not taken seriously. Tito remains an awesome, loving, dog who needs an experienced guardian. So please, let's not forget about Tito ... he still needs a furever home.

UPDATE: Animatch has come to a crossroad with Tito and unless we can find him the perfect home soon, a decision will have to be taken. When we accepted Tito into our care, there seemed to be no other options available to him. Sadly, we did not have all the facts concerning Tito when we accepted him. It has come to light that the previous and most recent owner had Tito for more than a few months; in fact he was in the home for 1.5 years. During this time he was greatly loved but they came to the realization that they could not keep him. Dogos were bred to hunt and hunt Tito did, cats in particular and they didn’t stand a chance. It is instinctive for him to chase and seize small creatures that run – unacceptable especially in the city. We have also been informed that mingling with small dogs is not an option. Because of his strength, Tito is difficult to control when out on a walk and his prey drive kicks in. We also learned that in his first home, he spent a lot of time tied up outside and when a new dog was introduced, fights ensued. It is for this reason that he was originally surrendered to the pound. After one or two unsuccessful placements, his most recent family adopted and kept him for over a year. They adored his sweet, affectionate nature but despite their experience with dogs, they understood that Tito’s size and determination made him difficult to control. Frankly, most Dogos are "too much dog" for the average household. This is a serious working dog with tremendous strength. Very few people really have the knowledge or skills necessary to manage this breed.

Our environment at Animatch – as some people know – is one where many small, medium, and large size dogs mingle and spend a lot of free time inside and out. Tito is dominant with other dogs and will not tolerate a dog trying to assert himself or herself. Therefore, he is crated far too many hours in a day – not a healthy situation for any dog. Animatch must keep all dogs safe but we also realize that this life of isolation cannot continue for Tito. We do feel that with an experienced and responsible guardian who has a home with a fenced yard, Tito could have a happy life. Everyone at Animatch has experienced the love this big fellow bestows on humans – all humans. Tito is sweet, gentle, friendly, and outgoing with everyone he meets and wants nothing more than a human on whom he can lavish his love and devotion. If you have the perfect home for Tito, please fill in the Adoption Form.
