My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Seniors make for easy living! Victor is available for a reduced adoption fee of $100, that's more than 50% off the normal adoption fee!

VICTOR is a 9 year young yellow male who weighs 89 pounds. He is a very sweet, gentle, trusting and loving dog who enjoys attention, (ear scratches, belly rubs, etc.) He constantly follows his foster from room to room and does not settle down until she does, and then he rests contentedly at her feet. His is not insistent in his desire for attention. He is very curious and likes to stick his nose in and investigate what you are doing, like "can I help". Victor responds, with some hesitation, to commands to "sit" and "rest". Apparently he has not been given these commands for a while. I do not believe he really hears these voice commands and responds primarily to the hand directions or touching. He walks slowly and calmly on a leash and is learning to walk on the leaders left side. He's approved for kids aged 10 and up.

Update (6/13): Victor enjoys his 2-3 times per day walks, but at his snail pace. He is a little tired when we return and eager to get inside and take a nap (me too). I try to stretch the distance a little bit but do not want to over do it and put too much strain on him. He enjoys setting outside on the porch or deck with me during the cooler part of the day. He has a good appetite, he eats every drop and then licks the bowl clean. He is very patiently watches his meal being prepared and then dances along beside the "waiter" delivering the meal. He likes to be handled and lays or stands contentedly when being examined (even looking at his teeth) or petted. All-in-all I think his doing well. He seems quite content. Family members with "smartphones' will be here this weekend and I will try to get some new photos.

Update (5/27): Victor has displayed about 20% increased mobility over the past few weeks. I think the Advanced Hip & Joint supplement can be credited for this. On a couple occasions I have even seen him try to run a little bit, only 4-5 strides, but even that is an improvement. He still walks very slow on our 2-3 per day walks, but has almost doubled his distance and does not seem to be as tired when done. Victor now regularly uses the ramp to and from the deck, but will occasionally forget and use the steps, with only moderate difficulty. He is very much a "couch potato" but likes to stay outside if I am out there working or just sitting together on the porch. In the evening, after dark, he enjoys rolling and laying in the cool backyard grass. Since he can't hear me call him in, I have to go out to him and catch his attention. He always responds readily, in his "slow motion" fashion.

Update (5/03): Victor is growing more confident and comfortable daily and now enjoys exploring all the nooks and crannies of his large fenced in backyard, with all its new and interesting smells, and making sure there are no rabbits or any other varmints invading his domain. His normal routine, when he first goes outside, is to lay down, roll in the grass and then take a short nap. Rain or snow does not seem to deter him from this routine and he likes the toweling down afterwards. He has learned to sit, without being told, before getting his treats. He watches and waits patiently for his meals to be prepared and does his little anticipation dance waiting for the bowl to be put in the stand. He waits patiently at the door to be let back inside, but if he thinks he has been waiting too long he reminds you with occasional bark. If he then doesn't get a response he will lay down and wait.

Update (4/17): Victor here! I am still doing great, still waiting for my furever family! My foster dad built me a snazzy ramp on the stairs going to the backyard that really helps me a lot! I am still being a super good boy, low maintenance and just want someone to love!!

Update (4/01): Victor is now pretty well settled in. We have established a routine for feeding, walking, potty time, bed time, etc. and he seems to be content with it. It is really funny... I have a 7 inch thick large dog bed that Brady slept on in my bedroom and a thinner one in the family room. He will not sleep on either of these and prefers to just sleep and lay on the carpet (always right at my feet. LOL)) . He will get on them when I direct him to, but he will not stay on them. Maybe he thinks this is some other dogs bed and I should not be on it. Or maybe the carpet does feel luxurious to him after his past life outdoors? Or maybe he just wants to be close to me! He is a sweet old man with lots of love to share!

Update (3/26): : He is such a sweet thing! During recent update to you I forgot to mention that Victor loves to ride in the car. Leave the door open accidentally and he is in. Then it is challenge to get him out. When we return from a ride it's like "lets go again". He is starting to get around better on the few stairs to the yard too but would still be best in a home without a lot of stairs. He is a great, calm gentle companion that wants nothing more than a head scratch and a belly rub!

Update (3/12): Over the weekend Victor started wagging his tail when petted or given other kind of attention. He has a good appetite and drinks plenty of water. He is learning to sit for a treat, primarily from hand help, he apparently does not hear voice commands, but he seems to understand what he is supposed to do. He takes treats gently and seems to be satisfied with just one treat. He is quite "laid back"

From foster: It breaks my heart to see what neglect has done to this poor boy and the physical suffering has had to endure. He deserves so much better.

I think you should know that he is basically deaf. His barking fooled me at first. I later discovered that he does not respond to vocal stimulus and only reacts when he sees you. I have tried talking very loud to him, calling loudly and even a very shrill whistle. He does not react at a distance or when close by. You have to approach him to get his attention. That being said he is a sweet soul that responds to touch and signals. Also, he some trouble navigating steps. This is understandable with his arthritis. He sometimes needs assistance going up. There are either 4 or 5 steps to enter my porches.
