My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

MUNCHKIN. Let me introduce myself. I am a handsome, 5.5 year young, red smooth dachshund. I'm a neutered male (not sure what that means), but I think it means handsome (did I mention that?). I've had a few problems in that my people didn't really take good care of me. I went to a shelter for awhile, and that wasn't much fun. But now I am at Oregon Dachshund Rescue, Inc. and they have taken me to a kind vet who has given me something called "the works." My claws are clipped, my eyes and ears are clean, my teeth are all taken care of. I feel great, and am on my way to forgetting about the bad ole days. The folks here are working to find me the perfect home. I've had some bad experiences with other dogs, that's why my ears have a few scars. But they are checking to see how I do with the other dachshunds here. I'm not so fearful now that I am with dogs my size and where everyone seems happy. I'd love a forever home with someone who really wants me and doesn't just see me as a bother. I'm a good boy. Come and see.

Based on 30 years of experience with rescue doxies, we have pretty strict criteria. Do you work from home/stay at home/work part time? Have a securely fenced yard? We do not place same gender dogs in a home unless they were raised together, and children need to be 10 or older (some exceptions IF the dog is a puppy or the child has been raised with a doxie). We prefer no smokers and a home with no other small animals (ferrets, hamsters, etc) Cats are on a case by case basis depending on the dog. Remember these are rescues, many were surrendered because of these issues.

All our dogs are fully vetted, including spay/neuter, all shots, wormer & flea protection, nails trimmed, the works. They'll come with a basket of goodies, food, toys and a custom made harness. The adoption fee is $395, no exceptions as this covers the cost to rescue them, vet them and take care of them while in our rescue. It also helps towards the care of other doxies that come with huge vet or dental bills or need extensive behavioral training.

Can you give him a happy, carefree life again? If interested, please complete the adoption questionnaire at www.odr-inc.org and email it to: jrangan@comcast.net - the adoption committee will be in touch with you within 48 hours so please be patient as we are solely volunteer run.
