Meet Chessa. Chessa is a Black Mouth Cur/Shepard mix. Chessa loves to play with her toys and fetch her ball. She will even throw the ball up in the air and catch it herself! She is both food and toy motivated. She is a very smart girl and with the right training has potential to learn many tricks. She would be a great candidate for an active family with kids. She also gets along well with other dogs. Chessa is cat curious and may be better off in a home with no cats.

Chessa has an old leg fracture that healed on its own. The vet said it would be pointless to put her through re-breaking it and resetting it, as it does not bother her. She is a shelter favorite because despite her “injury” she doesn’t slow down at all!

If you would like to adopt Chessa, please contact Stephanie at doubledogrescuestephanie@gmail.com

Unless otherwise indicated, all Double Dog Rescue dogs have received the following before being available for adoption:

Thorough veterinary examination

All routine annual vaccinations, including Rabies, DHLPP, Bordatella (kkennel cough), Heartworm Test, Fecal Test, Deworming

Spay/Neuter

All dogs are quarantined for two weeks outside of the shelter (puppies four weeks) to ensure they don't break with disease.

If any dog shows any signs of disease or ailment, DDR vets the dog until he or she has a clean bill of health to the best of our knowledge. This includes anything from being treated for Heartworm, Broken Leg, Cherry Eye, Torn ACL, Upper Respiratory etc.)

NOTE: Dogs who were treated for Heartworm can test positive up to 4-6 months after last treatment. All dogs are immediately put on Heartguard/Ivermectin following the treatment to kill the Heartworm larvae. All dogs should be re-tested after 4 months from the last Heartworm treatment.
