My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

MAGPIE is a 2 year old black neutered male who weighs 50 pounds. Magpie has lots of energy (typical young Lab), so he will need an owner who can provide him with plenty of exercise and stimulation. Magpie is approved for kids aged 10 and up.

Update (5/22): Magpie is a good little doggy who is so affectionate. He has good house manners and hasn't had any accidents in the house! He hasn't tried to jump the 5 foot fence, but any shorter, and he might try! He knows not to do it, but the world seems so appealing, he cannot resist, so he needs constant supervision outside. He has gotten good about breakfast and dinner - he sits patiently and does not try to get to the food before given to him, but he keeps a close eye on his bowl, very cute and funny. He loves everything food, be it a carrot or a treat, and if it is reachable, he will take it, so clear counters for this guy!

Update (5/21): Magpie is such a sweet boy who, though frequently energetic, calms down quite nicely after he has had time to play and will actually fall asleep with the other doggies when in the living room. His leash manners are not too terrible with an easy walk harness, but he has a strong prey drive, so you will have to watch him. He will run after the cat if the cat runs away, so he'd do better in a home with no cats. Magpie is crated when we are not home and he just takes a nap. Magpie knows sit and paw very well. He will sit at the door if you remind him to sit, or if you do not get to the door quickly enough, so he knows that this is what he has to do. He is continuing to work the "down" and "off" commands and is making progress. He is good with all other dogs, large and small, and enjoys playing tug-o-war - his favorite toy is a rope. He can do that for hours, so he plays with multiple dogs, and he adjusts his tugging based on doggie size. Really fun to watch. He has a sweet personality and good demeanor. He is fine if he gets to go for long walks or play with dogs. Big old brown eyes and sweet smile. Belly rubs, ear scratches and you are his super star. He is quite easy to please.

Update (4/30): Magpie is a happy little pup who loves playing tug with his foster family. He has made tremendous progress in his obedience training and now knows sit, paw and down. He is also learning that fence-jumping is not a fun game, so he probably needs to go to a home with a 5 or 6 foot fence. A tired Magpie is a happy Magpie, and he loves playing with other active dogs. Otherwise, he's a giant lovebug who loves belly rubs and ear scratches, and of course has the perfect lab lean.

Update (3/26): Magpie is starting to settle in nicely at his foster's. He gets along well with the other dogs and behaves very nicely around the humans. He is working on not counter surfing or jumping, but he's already made lots of progress! He is also gaining weight and his curves are rounding nicely. He is starting to look like the happy, healthy pup he is.

Update (3/23): Magpie is enjoying life with his foster. Lots of fun playing with all of the other dogs in the house!

Update (3/22): Magpie is starting to settle into his foster home very nicely and has met all of the resident labs successfully. While he likes the dogs, he isn't too fond of the resident horses and cat, so no cats or horses for him for now! Magpie is such a cutie pie! He is very curious and has a lot of energy. He is very well crate trained, has not had an accident or any complaints. He just goes to sleep until it is time to come out and play. He is eager to please and a quick learner. He is getting better on the leash every time you walk him and he has quickly picked up that doors do not open unless he is sitting. He loves to be petted and give kisses. He will win someone over very quickly, not just because of his good looks!
