My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

SCOOBY is a 2 year old AKC chocolate neutered male who weighs 90 pounds (should lose 5-7 lbs, which should not be hard once he starts getting exercise.) Scooby is a beautiful and strong boy. His previous family didn't exercise him enough or train him, so he's learning to have some boundaries. Scooby needs to go to a family with a fenced in yard where he can run and retrieve. A family committed to working on his obedience training and providing him with the exercise that he needs is a must. Not recommended for first-time adopters or anyone who lives in an apartment. H responds to "sit." He pulls on the leash, so he will need to be walked with an Easy Walk harness until he learns how to heel. He is housetrained and crate trained and is used to sleeping in a crate at night. He's approved for kids aged 10+.

Update (4/15): Scooby is enjoying life and is doing well in his foster home. He is a total character and his fosters love him, he is a good dog. Scooby needs regular exercise. Currently he gets several walks a day, he enjoys retrieving balls, and playing with the resident dogs. He gets pretty exuberant at the beginning of walks and when he first starts retrieving balls so needs some guidance on appropriate behavior. An easy walk harness helps when walking Scooby as he likes to go go go. He enjoys chasing balls, but is not totally obsessed with it. When he gets tired, he stops to rest for a few minutes before we begin again. The best fit for Scooby will be a family that will be patient and work with him on continued training and provide some structure in his life.

Update (3/26): Scooby is a big, happy boy, who enjoys walks, retrieving balls, chasing his foster sister, being chased by his foster brother, chewing on bones and sticks, receiving vigorous rubs, and snuggling with his fosters on the sofa in the evenings. Although he has puppy exuberance, Scooby is a well-behaved typical lab. When he gets excited (e.g., dinnertime, waiting for the ball to be thrown), he jumps straight up with all four paws off the ground. He is quickly learning the benefits of sitting before being fed, receiving treats, or having the ball thrown. We have not been crating Scooby at night. (He doesn't really care for the crate.) Scooby does bark when he hears unfamiliar noises and when he first sees people he does not know. However, he quickly warms up to new people for pets and ear rubs. Scooby walks well and is a good running partner with the EZ-harness. He can get a little distracted but the EZ-harness works wonders. Scooby is snuggle bug and enjoys sleeping with people on the sofa. However, due to his size, he does have a habit of falling off the sofa when he rolls over.
