Here's what the humans have to say about me:
HERBERT (AKA Herbie the Love Bug) is a 6-7 year old black neutered who weighs 73 pounds. He's a very sweet boy! He will need an owner who can help him get around (as needed) with his arthritis. He now pulls some on lead, so an easy walk harness will be good for him. Herbert was tested with a male Bassett Hound at the shelter and did very well. He went up to say hi and then went about his business. Due to his arthritis, though, he probably should only be placed with older, calmer dogs. He also seems to have a bit of trouble hearing, so I did a quick wave by his face to get his attention. He then happily followed along with me. Herbie trots along well despite the weakness in his legs. He's approved for kids aged 10+.
Update (4/26): He’s extremely easy going, loving, and affectionate. He may be elderly, but he’s one great dog and a handsome fella as well. Given all the bad things that he has experienced, you’d never know it from his behavior. He is a bit hearing challenged, so sometimes he has to be gently touched to get his attention. He is great on leash and is learning about the stairs. Herbert is completely at ease with people and other dogs; mostly, he just wants to show his love for his people companions. He’ll win your heart if given a chance. He is going to make a great companion for any family.
Update (4/23): Herbert is enjoying life at his foster home and likes to sleep in the living-room with the resident dogs. During the day he follows his foster mom upstairs to her office and stays by her feet. He is better about going up and down the stairs by himself. He is generally more comfortable and likes to be with his people, so he's wondering why his forever family hasn't come to get him yet!
Update (4/08): Herbert has been an absolute pleasure to have around. All he wants is somebody to love. He follows his foster everywhere he goes or lies at his feet and naps. He's a lovely walker on the leash and just wants to mosey along with his favorite human. He loves being outside and soaking up the sun. He's such an easy guy with a heart of gold that he reminds his foster of Neil Young's song 'Heart of Gold.' All Herbert wants now is his forever family!
