I am good with dogs and not good with cats.

Tom's Story...
I know, I am this beautiful shade of gold, but right now I'm feeling blue. I need a home and I'm waiting for you! There is no reason I should be feeling down ‘cause a sensitive guy like me should soon have a loving family and a place to call home. I am great with other dogs here at the shelter but I would prefer not to share my home with any fellow canines as I want to be the lucky guy who gets all the attention to myself! I love chasing those pesky cats so a home without them would be great, but I have to be honest: I am a little too insecure for really young children, but respectful older children 10+ will be just fine. I am crate trained already and I’ve even learned the words 'sit' and ‘shake’. Maybe you can teach me a few more words... like "let's go home.” 5 years old-57lbs-Golden Retriever + German Shepherd + Australian Cattle Dog mix. My adoption fee is $180 and includes; neuter, microchip, reduced cost training class, 1 month pet health insurance, free veterinary exam , leash/collar, toy & treat packet, food sample.

Why Adoption is a Great Option

Tom, a Portland German Shepherd Dog/Golden Retriever dog was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a German Shepherd Dog/Golden Retriever for sale in Portland, or seeking a German Shepherd Dog/Golden Retriever dog from a breeder in Portland.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Portland already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Portland breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even German Shepherd Dog/Golden Retriever breeders who help with German Shepherd Dog/Golden Retriever rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Portland paves the way for another one to be saved.
