Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Meet Maverick, a handsome male black lab. Though there has been some discrepancy on his age, our best estimate is he is about 2 years old. He currently weighs in at a somewhat underweight 56 pounds.
His foster mom describes him as follows: Read any description about a young Lab and you know about Maverick! Happy, energetic, friendly, eager to please, good appetite! When I first read his sad story, that he has lived his entire life tethered to an outside doghouse, never seeing the inside of a house, I thought I was in for a lot of work to turn him into a "house dog". Never crated, I thought housebreaking was going to be a nightmare. Well, what a pleasant surprise! At first he did not want to go into the crate, but once he figured out that is where he gets fed, crating is not an issue. Doesn't cry or bark or try to get out, and settles calmly down.
Next surprise was when left out in the "dog" room, no housebreaking issues! He knows to potty outside. (He is let out several times a day). When I leave him free during the day, he has done no damage to anything.
In the love department, that is 100% Maverick. All he wants is attention. Even just a look and a smile and his whole body is shaking and wagging and stomping his feet. Again, being tethered all the time without any attention, the tiniest bit of affection shown to him is so appreciated. This is one dog that will certainly become a loyal, loving family member in an instant. Must remember though, he's young, he's strong, he's energetic and he's a Lab. He's been an outside dog all his life, (remember how cold it has been?), and although the right instincts are there to be a normal inside family dog, he will require some guidance as to becoming the perfect family member. And I have no doubt that he will.
He does well with other dogs, and is curious about the family cat. My cat is dog savvy, so she puts the dogs where they belong on "the totem pole according to cats", which means he knows to let her be. A timid cat may take time to adjust to him and he to lose interest.
Maverick is a dog that I believe will adjust to most any situation, and if you have a little space in your heart to accommodate a HUGE amount of loving and loyalty, this is the dog for you!
Maverick's adoption fee of $300 includes: vet exam, heartworm test, distemper combination vaccination, bordetella vaccination, rabies vaccination, fecal exam, deworming, microchip and neuter.
