My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

DeJaVu (or just Deja) is an 8 year old spayed black female who weighs 66 pounds. Her owner lost his home and could no longer take care of Deja. She is missing a lot of fur but our vets have concluded that she is healthy and it is just a case of flea dermatitis that will be easily cleared up and the fur will come back! She is a very sweet girl who is great with other dogs and loves people. She's approved for kids aged 10 and up.

Update (6/04): Deja had a vet visit today. They say she is looking great, her coat is looking great and she has gained 12 lbs! Deja is pretty much a couch potato (but on her dog bed) and doesn’t ask for a bunch of exercise. She does like to retrieve for a while, but doesn’t get obsessed over it- it is almost as if she just wants to spend some quality time with you. She likes walks but does need more opportunity to practice- I haven’t made the time to walk her as often as I should- she doesn’t pull a lot, but it is obvious that she hasn't spent a bunch of time on the leash. She is fine with our cats when they walk around- just will sniff or maybe lick but very gentle, but if they tear through the house she will join the others chasing them. She is not a jumper and is very obedient and eager to please!

Update (6/01): From what we were told, Deja’s previous owner lost his home and was bawling when he surrendered her. She was underweight and had skin issues but her attitude was great. During her time with us, she has put on some weight, her skin problems have been resolved and her coat is growing back in.

Deja is very well mannered. She does not counter surf, climb on furniture unless invited or jump up on you. After a pat on her head, she lies at your feet until it is time to go do something. She wants to be nearby without being clingy. Loves settling into a dog bed inside or out. She is great with the cats and fine with the horses. She has never had an accident inside and has never chewed anything but toys, and with those she is very gentle.

Her big thing is kisses. Give her a chance and she will gently kiss whatever is offered. That includes your face when you bend over to tie shoelaces but she stops when asked. She has enticed one of the old Labs in her foster home to play and our Golden and Deja play on a regular basis. The GoDogGo was a hit with her. Deja tries to please and we see her as being quite intelligent. For example, some of the tennis balls during one bout of GoDogGo ended up on our pool cover. We pointed to them and asked her to get them. Out she went, brought them to us and went after the rest one at a time. Tail wagging and a big smile on her face the whole time.
Deja loves meeting new people, but is not overbearing. She would probably do well in about any situation. The ideal would be where she had a canine friend to play with and a human that wanted a companion at their feet. Deja is very sweet, loving and a joy to have in our home. She has a lot of love to share- please contact your Adoption Coordinator if you do too.

Update (5/15): Deja is such a great girl! She is good with dogs and cats. She may be an older lady but she has lots of spunk. She loves toys and to play, especially running on the pool cover. She is sweet to the cats and the other seniors in the house,so if you are looking for a girl that is laid back and calm but still loves to play, she is your girl!! Plus, she does not mind playing dress up either - she really is a rare find and a gem!

Update (4/26): Deja's Discourse Part deux: This week, I got two of the old fuddyduddies to play with me: they weren’t terribly exciting but it was better than growling at me. And guess what?!?! I actually retrieve…in fact I LOVE to retrieve, but I am just not real trusting of the humans giving me my toy back so we are still working on that. The fat old cat came downstairs today to get away from the thunder and she let me lick her; I think this may be the start of something beautiful. Well, I have to supervise my FM while she fixes our dinner, but did want to share about the cool stuff happening. Love, Déjà vu aka Deja

Update (4/24): Deja’s Discourse: Okay, I desperately need a home where somebody will play with me; nine might mean older and wiser, but certainly not any less playful. My foster sibs are all old fuddy duddies- I try everything to get them to play: bow, kiss, bark, offer toys, even steal their toys, but nada. At least the humans will play with me (and I reward them with lavish kisses) but it just isn’t the same.

The humans laugh at me a lot and say I have a great sense of humor. I figured out that if I take my toys to the middle of the pool cover, no one will bother me because they are too chicken to walk on it. I really like the sound it makes when I run across it- almost as much as the squeakers in the toys until one of the fuddy duddies rips them out. I figured out when it rains I can slide really far on the cover if I get a running start. I also figured out that I can make the outside dog beds slide if I get a head full of steam. I like to lie on my belly with my back feet facing up, and if I need a belly scratch and no one is willing to help me out, I will slither along the rug and do it myself. They laugh at me too when, in the middle of my “good morning dance” I stop, look outside and race through the dog door to do some business, then come back and finish my dance (but I am not sure why they “good girl” me when I return.)

I have gained some weight and my fur is gradually growing back, although FM says I still have “possum butt”; I am almost finished with my meds- they say I have been very, very good about taking them. I have gotten used to the humans leaving us alone, but sometimes I really want to go with them when they work in the yard. The cats are interesting, but not worth chasing, and I am not sure they want to play with me either. I haven’t gone for many walks (the humans have kennel cough) so I am still pulling a little bit when we do go. I haven’t had any accidents and don’t chew anything that doesn’t belong to me. I have been very good about guarding the humans at night, sleeping outside their bedroom door, but sometimes I have to wait for that dog bed until one of the other guys leaves to go outside.

Well, I’m off to play- please contact your AC if you have a young whippersnapper who needs a friend to play and snuggle with- I give great kisses! Rumor has it, my previous owner named me “Deja Vu” because I reminded him of a wonderful dog he had before.

Update (4/07): Déjà vu is a kick-tons of fun! She has lots of energy, likes human interaction, gets along well with the other dogs. We will be working to grow her coat back and put on some weight. Someone will get a great dog - if they are willing to get kissed repeatedly for no other reason than the sun is up……………..she is a sweetie!

Update (4/01): Deja here....I went to a nice place called a foster home last night - wow it is nice to be "home" again. I met all the resident dogs. There is one grumpy butt old golden, however things went well. They already taught me to use the dog door and I taught myself how to use the dog window/cat door. I loves to retrieve a ball and have discovered I love the sound of running across the pool cover so I just keep doing it! From her foster: She is currently lying under the dining room table chewing on a very old soup bone and is as content with the dogs as she is with us, so life is good! Such a sweet "old gal"!!
