My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Harley: 16 month-old male neutered chocolate Lab, 90 lbs

Harley came to Lab Rescue as his owners both work full-time and Harley spent his days in the back yard, which was a problem as there were 4 neighbor dogs in the next yard and Harley was barking at (with?) them. This wasn't appreciated by the neighbors and so Harley spent his days inside. As a young dog in the house all day might do, he was bored and entertained himself with counter-surfing and chewing non-dog items. So his owners kept him in a crate during the day. Understanding that all day in a crate is not a great life for a young, active dog, his owners reluctantly contacted us to find him a better home. Harley is an active, friendly, sweet boy. Harley is also, we have to say, very handsome! He gets along well with other dogs (lived with a boxer) and loves to wrestle if they are game. He is great with kids. He is interested in cats and will give chase. Harley is up to date on his shots, neutered and has had one training course plus puppy classes. Harley is microchipped and heartworm negative. He does need some leash reminders as he will pull. Harley rides well in the car. Lab Rescue would like a home for Harley where someone is home much of the day. It would be ideal for him to have a canine brother or sister, but it is not a must-have. He would be fine with dog-savvy children, although given his size, very small children would not be ideal. Harley will need a family dedicated to getting him the exercise, attention and leadership he deserves. He will make a wonderful addition to any family. Harley is located in Livermore.
**Update from the foster**--"Harley is a very well behaved boy. He comes when called, doesn't jump up, counter surf, or beg, and is learning to wait at the door and wait for the ok to eat his food. He really wants to please and do the right thing. Harley has settled down nicely--is active but isn't hyper. He stays in his crate when we go out and isn't destructive with his bed. Harley is easy to train and is improving on his leash walking. He and our dog Chance are getting along great and love playing…he's one of the best dogs we've fostered!"

If you are interested in this active boy, please contact Rescue Rep Allison at 415-806-2490. Texts are fine too but pls include your name and a good time to reach you.
(Please keep in mind we are all volunteers, most of us work full time and we all have personal lives. I do call everyone back within 2-3 days so please be patient and I will be back in touch with you. When the dogs are in foster homes then it may take longer as we need to touch base with the fosters for updates on the dogs. We work very hard to make the right matches for the dogs and for the new owners. We get 3-5 dogs per week and we do not have a facility that we keep the dogs housed in. They are scattered all over the Bay Area.)
