Sailor is an exuberant, bouncy, pup who is between six and seven months old. He weighs 65 lbs. and still has a lot of growing to do; our best guess is that he is part Leonberger and part Bernese. This fabulous pup was an unclaimed stray. Adopting a puppy is a huge commitment; for one thing, you can’t leave a puppy home alone all day. Sailor is rambunctious and will require a lot of exercise and attention. In order for this fellow to learn some doggy social skills, his new guardian must commit to basic training. He needs patience and consistency in teaching him to walk on leash, in stopping him from mouthing your hand like a chew toy, in discouraging him from jumping on people, and of course in simply learning his basic commands such as “sit”, “ down”, “come” and “stay”. Training makes for a happier dog and one that is welcome in more places, it shouldn’t be an option for a dog of Sailor’s size. He gets along with other dogs, and has a goofy side, running around with toys and sticks stuffed in his mouth. He promises to be a excellent companion for an active person who is willing to invest the time and patience into training this majestic fellow.
