My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hi Everyone!
I'm Sebastian, the tiny dancer. My foster mom calls me that because each day I dance for my dinner as she walks to my bowl. She says it's beyond cute! I love to play with my foster siblings, especially the ones my size (10#) or a little bigger. I'm a good leash walker and great jumper, and can fly off the deck as I take my daily runs around the yard playing chase. :)

The home I dream about each night would have a Mommy who loves a lap dog. Because a lap is the best thing in the world!! It would also have a sibling doggie to play with and we could keep each other from getting scared or lonely when Mom has to leave. If she is at home a lot, that would be a dream come true! Did I mention I'm a kissy-kissy dog? Well I am!! I give the best doggie kisses ever!

We need to talk about Daddy's for a minute. This is the sad part so brace yourself. My first human was a male that did not treat his doggies well. I keep hearing the word abusive and though I don't know what that means, I know I was very very scared all of the time and learned to growl at the man type humans. The happy part is I have met some very nice daddies that I liked and if my new daddy can be calm and patient while I learn to trust him, in a day or two I'll jump up in his lap. I've done that with foster mom's friend's husbands and have been very proud of myself!

Although I love to play, I get a little startled around playing children so my perfect parent(s) would know to put me in a safe place if they come to visit.

I have so much love and personality to give and hope you are the one! I'm waiting to give my heart to someone that will love me forever in return. Happy & Hopeful, S.

Sebastian is a male poodle mix who is likely around 2 years old. He is up to date on his shots, neutered, and heart worm negative. As you can tell from his letter he is full of charm and personality! The ideal home for this Real Good Dog will have a secure fenced yard. A solid history of excellent vet care for current or previous pets is required. Preference will be given to applicants who have specific breed experience.

Please visit www.realgoodrescue.com to submit an electronic application if you are interested in adopting this or any other Real Good Dog.

We adopt dogs from Memphis Animal Shelter when we can. The shelter has an 83% euthanasia rate, one of the highest in the country. Unfortunately, any dog coming from Memphis Animal Shelter, and most other shelters for that matter, will have been in contact with contagious illness. Even though the dogs have been in foster care and appear to be in good health, they may become stressed when changing environments and exhibit signs and symptoms of illness. If you have other pets, they need to be up to date on vaccines before bringing a shelter dog into your home. We will take the adopted animal back, but we are not responsible for your other animal's vet care. We always disclose where the dogs have come from. Please ask for any information about the dogs and exercise due caution if you have immunocompromised animals.
