My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Sweeney is a tough little guy who is probably a beagle/doxy mix. He is not quite 12 inches tall and is a slender 15 pounds. Sweeney has seen too much neglect in his 4 + years of life. He had been rescued from a local shelter in 2012 and nursed back to health before being adopted that fall. He was recently reclaimed when found tied to a tree in his owner’s yard. The poor little thing did not have shelter or access to food or fresh water most of the time. He was infested with fleas and had hair loss from the constant scratching. But his spirit was unharmed! Sweeney remembered his foster home and all the wonderful things about being part of a family!

Sweeney is housebroken with the use of a dog door. He will occasionally mark when a new foster has had an accident, but his house manners are generally the best! He never gets into anything that does not belong to him. He does not play with his foster siblings, but does enjoy joining the pack on a squirrel or rabbit hunt! He loves for you to throw balls for him, but only so he can hide them in his favorite hidey hole! He is good on a leash and sleeps through the night. He does like to sleep on the big bed with you but will go sleep on a dog bed if told to.

Sweeney is a world class snuggle bunny. He will do well as an only dog, if given lots of lap time! He loves having his ears stroked now that the hair in growing back in and the mud balls are gone! You can almost hear him purr when you rub his nose and tell him that his new hair is looking good. Sweeney has a sweet, soft bay that is easy on the ears, but uses it mostly to tell you to hurry up with his food dish! Sweeney needs a family that will love and protect him so he can live happily ever after!
