My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Leo is a very sweet little boy who came to rescue as a stray. Estimated to be around 3 years old, he is a trim 13 pounds. He has a gold and white coat that was recently cut short, and is going to be very cute and fluffy as it grows out. Although he was initially scared, he now wears a happy smile. He is very relieved to be back in the comforts of a home and having a yard to romp and play in. He is very easy going and enjoys the company of his foster home’s three dogs, the two older children in the house, and he respects the cat of whom he was initially afraid. He loves getting attention, being petted, and belly rubs. He also loves walks, playing in the yard and is a very good passenger for car rides. One of his most endearing traits is that he LOVES tennis balls and he will play a gentle game of fetch with you any time of the day and will bring the ball back to your feet so you can bounce it again for him. It is absolutely adorable!

Because Leo is a Shih Tzu, known for being a companion breed, he enjoys being close to you. He will follow you from room to room and if you sit down he will want to snuggle up and be petted or just sit and nap beside you. He would be a wonderful companion dog for a family that is home much of the time, either as a single dog or with another small companion dog. He does not like being crated and will bark if put in a crate. At night Leo is okay with sleeping in his dog bed in the bedroom, but he would even happier to snuggle up in bed with you.

Leo is healthy, neutered, microchipped and up to date on all vaccinations. His adoption fee is $320 plus sales tax. Leo’s foster family would like to find a home for him within 30 miles of Minneapolis, but is dedicated to finding the best home for him despite mileage. We also encourage our adopting families to attend our Rescue Reunion which is held the third Saturday in June each year.

Before contacting Shih Tzu Rescue of Minnesota regarding any dog, please thoroughly read the Adoption Information at http://www.shihtzurescuemn.org/adopt.html first to help you understand the process, requirements and timeline for adoption. To meet Leo and other dogs available for adoption from Shih Tzu Rescue of Minnesota, please visit with us from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the Minnetonka Petco near Ridgedale the last Saturday of every month.
