My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Bishop was found east of Houston this spring. When no family came looking for him, he came to HBHR to find a new life. Bishop is around 5 years old, weighs 25 pounds and stands 14 inches tall. As with so many of our dogs this year, Bishop tested positive for heart worms. He has recovered from treatment without any problems and is now ready to find his very own forever home!

Bishop gets along well with his foster siblings, but is content to watch the action from the sidelines. He rarely joins in on a wrestling match, but pays close attention to the rules of the game. He does join in when the pack is on the scent of a squirrel, but is usually happy to lay on the grass with a nice smelly hoof to chew on! House training has gone fairly well. Bishop was probably an outdoor dog, but has caught onto what is expected of him. He uses the dog door like a champ now. He walks on a leash tentatively. As with being in a house, Bishop acts like he never had a collar on in his life!

We always say that the rescue dogs have baggage when they come in. It is obvious that Bishop has more than his share. He is very affectionate and loves to cuddle, but always acts like he is afraid that you will change your mind and throw him off the chair! He is sensitive to people talking with their hands and will shy away at first when you reach down to pet him. He really enjoys snuggling up to you on the bed for some evening TV watching. He gets such a happy look on his face when invited to jump up! Slowly, Bishop is learning to trust the world and will make a wonderful companion for some lucky person who has a heart full of love and patience.
