Tanner-Prison Dog's Story...
Tanner is an energetic 4 year old Yellow Lab that was surrendered to Friendship because there were too many pets in his family. He's a good boy that knows some commands. Tanner is house trained and has manners in the house. He likes kids, dogs and tolerates cats. Tanner has a tendency to bolt through open doors when he feels like it. He would love a tall fenced in yard with maybe some kids or another dog to play with.

On May 01, 2014, Tanner was selected to be one of Friendship's Prison Dogs. He is currently undergoing training at the Grafton Correctional Institute. Tanner is being trained in obedience, basic commands, manners and proper leash walking. He will spend approximately 12 weeks at the prison. If you are interested in adopting a prison dog, adoption applications are now being accepted. They can be downloaded at www.friendshipapl.org under ADOPT-FIND A FRIEND. A limited amount of apps will be accepted for each Prison Dog. They must be hand delivered to Friendship. If you have any questions, please contact the shelter at 440-322-4321.

If you put in an adoption application on a prison dog and find another dog before they return, please inform Friendship.

Why Adoption is a Great Option

Tanner-Prison Dog, a Elyria Labrador Retriever dog was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Labrador Retriever for sale in Elyria, or seeking a Labrador Retriever dog from a breeder in Elyria.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Elyria already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Elyria breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Labrador Retriever breeders who help with Labrador Retriever rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Elyria paves the way for another one to be saved.
