My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

AVA is an approximately 8-9 years old chocolate female who weighs 71 pounds. Ava was found as a stray and nobody claimed her. She had clearly not received medical care in a very long time. She was tested with other dogs and was very friendly. She also met two cats and didn't pay much attention to them. She has responded well to medication and will do best living in a home with very few stairs as she's arthritic. All she wants is a loving home where she can just hang out, go out to the yard, or go for a very short walk. Ava's approved for kids aged 10 and up.

Update (8/24): va is a sweet, funny, nosy, affectionate, and always on alert lab girl with a beautiful, soft, shiny, chocolate coat! Her arthritis is easily managed with a pill and a supplement. She can do a few stairs but would do best in a home without any. She is interested in everything that goes on and will follow you from room to room just to be in on the action. Ava frequently joins her fosters for outdoor brunch, dinner, and concerts and is a great guest. She lays patiently under the table and is always ready to say hello to everyone who walks by, the 2 and 4 legged variety! She is great with kids, dogs of all sizes, and seems to have no interest in the cats that cross her path.

Update (7/23): Ava is doing beautifully in her foster home but is waiting patiently for the perfect family to call her own! She is enjoying going to outdoor events with her fosters in the beautiful weather. In her new picture she is sharing a slice of watermelon! This girl is a GEM!

Update (7/02): Ava is such a wonderful, sweet, funny, comical dog and it is a wonder as to why she has not yet found her forever home. She is one of the happiest dogs ever and is super affectionate. Ava loves to cuddle and is always polite in asking for affection. Ava is very food driven and likes to help in the kitchen. She loves her car rides and looking out the window, especially when going on trips to get doggie ice cream which she enjoys at the nearby waterfront park. Ava would be an awesome addition to any home and is an easy dog to care for and love.

Update (6/16): Ava has completely settled into her foster home and her sweet, funny, and yes, sometimes stubborn, Lab personality has fully emerged. She has gotten physically stronger and her coat is beautiful and shiny. With some help getting up and down, she now comes up on the couch with her foster and absolutely loves to be cuddled. Ava loves going on picnics. She loves laying in the grass, getting her belly rubbed, and eating fruits and vegetables. She hasn't shown any interest in water or swimming, cats, or squirrels. She has made new dog and people friends but definitely prefers the attention of humans. She has some hesitation going up the 3 stairs to the house but she manages. The neighborhood kids gather around her and chant "Go Ava, Go Ava" until she gets in the house. Then there is a big chorus of "Yay Ava!" and cheers. Ava loves the attention! Ava would be a great laid back companion for anyone lucky enough to become her forever person.

Update (6/02): Ava continues doing well in her foster home! It is clear that with love, attention, and good food she is thriving. Her personality continues to shine. She loves to follow her fosters around and also enjoys the occasional nap. She is a hit with all in the neighborhood, people, kids, dogs and cats! This sweet girl is just waiting for her forever family to come find her!

Update (5/15): Ava is doing awesome!! It is amazing what love, attention, and good food can do. Her personality has just blossomed. She follows her people from room to room and loves to keep her fosters company in the kitchen. She enjoys napping on her dog bed under the front window and sleeps through the night. Every morning is like Christmas to Ava and she gets super excited when she sees her people. She makes little groaning noises and her tail wags like crazy! When her fosters get home from being out she greets them at the door with a big smile on her beautiful face. She does not show any interest in going on furniture though she is welcome to. Her arthritis is much improved and she can get up and down our three front stairs, though with some caution. She also goes on 3 to 4 walks per day and she does fine. She loves the park, lying down in the grass, and getting her soft fur brushed. When a person passes by she stops and watches with great interest and she loves meeting other dogs. She shows no interest in the neighborhood cats and the kids on the street love to pet her and she is really patient and gentle with them. She is a dream of a girl waiting for her forever home!

Update (4/30): Ava is a wonderful, sweet, funny girl and a perfect houseguest to boot! Within one day of arriving at her foster home she settled right into the routine. She followed the lead of her foster sister and it seems like she has always been at home. Not only does she have beautiful brown eyes and a thick, soft, chocolate coat, she is housetrained, knows basic commands. She walks great on lead, rides well in the car, and can be left alone without incident. She absolutely loves food and thoroughly enjoys meal time and snacks. She had never had a peanut butter Kong before and was not sure what to do, but after watching her foster sister she became an expert in no time! Belly rubs are always welcome; she rolls over and if you stop too soon will gently nudge you with her paw for more. She is affectionate and loves to be near her people. Ava gets very excited for her walks and is interested in meeting everyone and exploring the world around her. She is alert and curious and her tail never stops wagging! Ava would be a welcome addition to any household lucky enough to have her!

Update (4/25): Ava is settling in and she's a doll.
