My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

MEET RUSTY:

Are you a fan of baseball? Perhaps you have heard about Rusty Staub, a well loved red headed player in the 1960’s and 70’s. Or, perhaps you like cheesecake…have you heard of Rusty’s Famous Cheesecake in Seattle? Well, I am neither of these famous Rustys. I am RUSTY, the smooth and I hope to hit a home run and have you want to make me part of your family. I am a 5.5 year old, 12.5 lb red haired Dachshund who will melt you heart like your favorite dessert melts in your mouth. I am a calm, loving, and relaxed - smell the flowers on my walks kind of Dachshund. I don’t bark much and I like to watch movies. I also especially like lying in my crate with blankets that just came out of the dryer. The folks at Oregon Dachshund Rescue, Inc. tell me I am sweet and I even heard one of them call me “awesome.” Not sure what that means, but it sure sounds nice. Are you awesome too? Would you like a smooth, red haired dachshund to watch movies and smell the flowers with?

OUR CRITERIA (aka The Fine Print):

Based on 30 years of experience with rescue doxies, we have pretty strict criteria. Do you work from home/stay at home/work part time? Have a securely fenced yard? We do not place same gender dogs in a home unless they were raised together, and children need to be 10 or older (some exceptions IF the dog is a puppy or the child has been raised with a doxie). We prefer non smokers and a home with no other small animals (ferrets, hamsters, etc) Cats are on a case by case basis depending on the dog. Remember, these are rescues; many were surrendered because of these issues.

WHAT YOU GET IN RETURN WITH YOUR LITTLE RESCUE:

All our dogs are fully vetted, including spay/neuter, rabies, DHPP, Bordetella, Pyrantyl, nails trimmed, and dental when needed. They'll come with a basket of goodies, food, toys and a custom made harness. The adoption fee is $395, sorry no exceptions, as this covers the cost to rescue them, vet them and take care of them while in our rescue. It also helps towards the care of other doxies that come with huge vet or dental bills or need extensive behavioral training.

Can you give RUSTY a happy, carefree life again? If interested, please complete the adoption questionnaire at www.odr-inc.org and email it to: jrangan@comcast.net - the adoption committee will be in touch with you within 48 hours so please be patient as we are solely volunteer run.
