My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

My name is Luke. I am 2 years old and I have a story to tell. It was a cold January morning as I slowly wandered in the street. I had been without food for so long, my tummy no longer growled or rumbled with hunger. I was sick with despair. My body ached; it was racked with pain. I remember praying that day like I did every day. Dear God, please help me, I'm afraid that I'll never grow old, I don't think I'll make it too much longer, I am so weak and tired. I continued walking aimlessly and as I passed in front of a small house, a woman came out. Her voice was friendly and sweet, it was soothing to my ears. She called me to her and I cautiously proceeded toward her. She stroked my head and I licked her hand. She told me that I was going to be okay, she was getting me help. She carefully picked me up and put me in her car. We pulled in front of the shelter; she said it was closed. So we drove back and this time ended up at the police department. She explained to the police that I was sick and the shelter was closed. She said that she didn’t have the money to take me to the vet. That’s when the police gave her a number to call. After speaking to someone on the phone, she turned to me and said that help is on the way. As we waited in the car, it started to rain. I sat patiently, watching the rain drops dribble down my side of the window. I stuck my tongue out trying to catch the drops as they fell. In the distance, I see a woman approaching; she is smiling and waving at me. I thought to myself, do I know her? As she got closer the window opened, she told me not to worry any more, that I was going to be okay. From that point forward, I knew that God had answered my prayers! I was rushed to Pet Harbor Veterinary Hospital in Pascagoula, MS where I was admitted and stayed several days until I was strong enough to go to my foster home. Once at my foster home, my parents bundled me up in a blanket and held me in their arms. They softly said to me, “We are the bridge between what was and what can be. We are the pathway to a new life. For what little time you are ours, we will feed you with our own hands. We will love you with our whole heart and we will make you whole”. I learned a lot about myself and the world with my foster family. I learned what love is and what it’s like to be loved! My foster parents told me that I am ready to have a family to call my own. They said that the Rescue Angels are searching near and far to find the perfect home for me, where I can be a star. They also said that there is a family that’s waiting patiently and pretty soon we’ll find them. Each night, I lay my head down and ask God; “Is tomorrow the day I will meet my forever family”?
