My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

NOW AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION is a 5 year old (12/14/2008), spayed, black, Standard Poodle who comes to us from a family that knew their beloved "Rosa" was not being properly cared for or receiving the attention she truly deserved.

It's not easy, but we all know that sometimes letting go is the greatest gift we can give the ones we love.

Thank you Rebecca, for doing the right thing.

Rosa is a soft, gentle, quiet, VERY loving Standard Poodle who is also active, silly (sense of humor) and thrives on attention and affection. You should see her do the "Silly dance" while she chases her tail.

She will follow me around everywhere I go waiting to be petted and loved. Rosa is a Poodle who considers herself a member of a family and not a dog.

She has been a work-in-progress learning how to walk on a leash, come when called, sit and other basic obedience commands that are required of all large breed dogs.

Rosa has NO bad habits! This includes NO counter surfing, NO chewing furniture, NO destructive behavior, NO trying to steal people food (my supper!) nor will she jump up onto the furniture.

Rosa loves being with people, including (and especially) men as well as older children. Toys are not something that interest Rosa. However, she likes her new, soft floor cushion (bed) and tends to run into her (new and very large) kennel when she is unsure.

We have not found any "dog treats" that she likes, so we have been using cheep American cheese slices made into small balls.

Yes, this is a GREAT AND RARE opportunity for an active and experienced family.

Pictured on our web site, you will see that Rosa arrived at Picket Fence Poodles at a very thin 37 pounds, roached and had been shaved naked.

We immediately had taken her to our Vet. Extensive testing was done to determine if there was anything physically wrong with her.

All tests results came back normal. Besides the obvious fact that she is underweight, Rosa is healthy.

She is being fed a quality hard kibble dog food mixed with a canned dog food and vitamins. We have found that she just LOVES to eat, so she should gain her required weight back very quickly.

A normal weight for this sized Poodle (25" tall) is about 45 to 50 pounds. Rosa has already gained 5 pound and looking much better. Good girl, Rosa!

A fenced yard for Rosa, who just loves to run and romp and dance a happy dance, will be required. You also need patience and a willingness to work with Rosa's obedience training.

NO shipping. NO transportation. Absolutely NO cats, small children or small dogs. Rosa is fine with other large dogs but only if they are not dominate or aggressive as this is a "soft", gentle girl. Preference will be given to families with no other dogs.

Rosa's $500.00 adoption fee will help pay for her Vet expenses which include her Vet visit, blood work-up, Heartworm tested negative and placed on a preventative, Home Again Micro-chipped and registered, teeth cleaned, shots are up-to-date and she has been wormed.

Also included with Rosa's adoption are ALL her past Veterinarian records, a "Giant" kennel, blankets, bed, various toys, leash, collar, a large bag of dog food, large dog food container, a 6 month supply of HeartGard (heartworm medication) and lots of good information to help start your adoption on the right paw forward.

Please contact us if you would like more information about Rosa or her "Application For Adoption".

NOTE FROM GAIL: I will have more pictures of Rosa with our grand-children after Mother's Day week-end.
