My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Let me introduce you to SWEET Sully. He is a one and a half to two year old neutered male Golden Retriever and Border Collie mix with the deepest brown eyes and softest coat of fur! He is a medium size dog weighing 45 pounds. He has a beautiful black shiny coat of fur which should be groomed daily so the shedding and matting is minimal. He is a real people dog and loves being with his family and he will make a great family dog for most home situations.

With both breeds of dog in him he is smart with a lot of energy. With the Border Collie in him it makes him a very fast dog, not only when he runs. Sully, being a herding breed, gets distracted easily by moving things and reacts fast so he needs a close watch when opening home and car doors. Sully would appreciate an ACTIVE forever home where he can get daily long walks and running/playing sessions. He is a young dog so he is active and fit and wants the same of his forever family people.

Sully was a stray at a rural animal control facility and was not claimed by his owner. With his curiosity and quickness we can see how he may have gotten away from his previously owners and may have ventured far, not even be near the area he was from. But no one came looking for him and that we cannot understand at all. He is a loving and friendly dog who has done very well in our care and who has fit right in to our family. He deserves a family who will be very attentive to him and devoted to him and his training. He is smart and eager to please so he takes to training well.

He needs to belong to a home where there is a lot of time for hugs and cuddles as he could do that all day. He will be very attached to his new family. He has a hard time enjoying the outside by himself, he wants to be with his family, but if you’re out there with him he does enjoy a good play session of tug of war, running, fetching and just about any adventure. Sully is super affectionate; he plops his body anywhere on you just to get your attention.

When you’re up and about, waking up, coming in the door he will jump up and demand about 30 seconds of your attention, accompanied by hugs and kisses. We were trying to get him out of the jumping up habit but we have noticed it is really just with us adults and not the kids and it is so darn adorable to correct it. This can be corrected I'm sure very easily if wanted. We have him in a crate at night time and does well but you can tell he would rather be sleeping elsewhere as he is hesitate to get in it. We have him in his crate during the day but I am sure if he was out he would be just fine. We stick with the crate routine to give him consistency and structure and would recommend his adoptive family do the same until he is well settled in.

Sully would do well in a home situation with adults and kids. He does prefer a lot of attention so he would like to be the only dog in the home. He is good with other dogs; he just is more of a people dog and prefers human company. He is young so still energetic outside but will also relax with you in the home. We would want a big yard that is fenced in for him to play as he does get distracted very easily and may run. Sully loves his walks. We have him currently on a short leash for this walks as he is sort of all over the place, but we are working on him to stay on one side when walking. He is good with greeting other dogs on the leash while on his walks. A few walks a day will suit him fine. He has a hop to his playtime so if you are interested in teaching him agility (jumps, etc..) he would probably love that.

Sully settled in nicely with his foster family. We have our own seven year old dog, three kids ages twelve, fourteen, nineteen. He doesn't pay attention to our dog as much as the younger kids, making me think he was the only dog in his first home and was with younger kids. It seems like he was not socialized too much with other dogs, as he didn't really seem to know how to play with our dog, but he knew exactly how to play when our younger boys got on the floor with him. He has not shown any type of aggression whatsoever. We feel he would be good with children who are 8 years and older in the household. He tries to come in between our dog and us every time our dog comes towards us or anyone, so as mentioned above it would be best if he were the only dog. He LOVES his people and will be a very devoted dog to a family that loves him. He is a very soft, gentle natured but energetic dog. He is an affectionate and loving dog. Sully is the dog you want if you are looking for a close companion.

Sully is being such a good boy during his stay with us. Upon his arrival you can tell he had little obedience training. He will require commitment and dedication to continue his training. He is housetrained however does not give any noise alerts that he needs to go out. He should be closely watched for the first few days until a pattern is noticed. We are now teaching him good behaviours which he is picking up well. He now sits when asked 80% of the time. He understands the words “stay”, “come” and we are working on the “lie down” and “off” command. The one bad habit he has is taken food off plates/tables when your back is turned. He needs to be supervised when food is out. He LOVES food so we are training with treats to start the training process and this seems the best way for Sully. Sully seems to want your attention all the time but not in a bad way. When you are doing things he is fine with just laying around however when you’re with him he will be expecting your pats and his hugs and kisses. His new family should be prepared to be spoiled by him.

Sweet, beautiful Sully is an easy dog to love. Sully is a top student in our eyes and we know that if you adopt him, he will love you endlessly and bring so much joy to you every day. Adopt this fellow, it'll be the best decision you have made!

All Pound Dog Rescue dogs are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, heartworm tested, de-wormed (if required), and microchipped prior to adoption.
