My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Cheech is a beautiful big boy who is going to make a wonderful family companion. He and his brother Chong, were sent to us from a kill shelter where they were brought in as strays but because they were so friendly, and such lovely pups, the caring pound staff asked that Ugly Mutts take them to ensure they were given the best chance to find a loving home. We are not sure of their breeding but obviously have some large breed in their mix. They are currently 8 months old and weigh 63 and 73 lbs respectively. Chong will be coming up for adoption shortly as well.

Here is what Cheech's foster family had to say:

Cheech is still a puppy at just 8 months but he is an amazing dog. He is super friendly, super soft and I believe he still has some growing to do. He is very intelligent. He learned his basic commands very quickly and continues to learn new things every day.

Cheech is friendly with everyone he has met so far. He is not shy of strangers and loves everyone and everything equally. He has a wonderful gentle energy about him. He gets along great with other dogs of any size and shape. He greets everyone with a wagging tail and loves to play with any other friendly dog. He is getting used to all the sights and sounds of the city. He will bark for a couple minutes when I first leave but settles very quickly. He loves going for runs with his people, playing fetch, getting lots of pets and chewing on a good bone.

As Cheech is still a puppy we are crating him when we are not at home and at night for sleeping. As I do work from my home location he is not crated for more than 3 or 4 hours at a stretch during the day. At night he sleeps 7 - 8 hours in the crate with no problems. We are working on setting him up for success so we don't want to leave him unsupervised until he is fully house trained and knows not to chew on anything he shouldn't. So far he has learned "come", "sit", "stay" and "drop it". Of course he will need further training and someone that is willing to use lots of positive reinforcement. He is very eager to please and he picks up on requests quickly, making him very easy to train.

He was not house trained when he first arrived but we have been working diligently with him and he is now well on his way to being house trained. He does walk nicely on leash with no distraction but will need further training as he will still try to chase a squirrel if he sees one even when it runs up the tree. When you are leaving the house he will try to bolt out the door to be with you but when you ask him to sit and stay he listens. He rides well in the car.

Cheech is still a puppy with lots of puppy energy so he will need someone willing to continue his training and socialization so he remains the wonderful, affectionate and playful companion he is.

If you think this beautiful boy would be a good addition to your family, please submit an application for consideration.
