My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Mikey is a funny and active 7 year old, 12 pound rat terrier mix of some sort. He has been with us for awhile basically because he hates crazy dog filled adoption events and comes off as a complete nutjob… and then he goes back to his foster home and is a perfect angel dog.., like a really good boy! So, if you are a terrier fan who is interested after reading his bio and would like to meet Mikey, we can arrange that thru his foster momma. Mikey is located in the Brea, CA area.

Mikey is crate trained and potty trained, he sleeps in his crate at night in his foster home. Mikey isn’t crated except for bed time. He does fine with free range of the home and is fine with being left home alone in his foster home as he has other dogs to keep him company. He wouldn’t like being all alone all day. Mikey’s hobbies are watching TV (seriously…he watches TV and has favorite commercials) and chasing things around the yard. You know… terrier stuff?

Mikey does well in the car and is good on a leash but needs leash manner training, as he barks at… other dogs and things with wheels besides cars. This is easily fixable, but he is in a foster home with a big yard and other dogs, so he doesn't get walks very often to work on it. On the topic of barking, he barks at some things.. But he also listens and accepts corrections. If you don't live on a crazy busy street, he will bard less because there are less things to tell you about!. Inside he barks at people outside (like the mailman) and sometimes something on TV he wants to talk about. Outside he may or may not bark at birds, cats, and motorcycles that are loud (he finds them annoying)... but he listens and accepts corrections, so that is good.

Mikey is a good eater, not food aggressive and loves treats which will come in handy for rewarding him for behavior that deserves rewarding! He patiently WAITS his turn for treats. He doesn’t jump the line or get pushy. He is civilized after all. He also tippy toes past the other dogs when they are sleeping and he doesn’t want to disturb them.

Kids are a no for Mikey. He must have had a bad experience with kids in his past homes. He does love to hunt birds, mice and squirrels so not sure how much a cat would appreciate his… well… terrier-ness. Teenagers and adults are a yes for Mikey.
Mikey LOVES activities. He loves walks, hikes and running around the yard. Also, he has been doing barn hunt (google it! Who knew!) with his foster momma which he LOVES.He is really good at it!

During the stay at home order his foster momma works from home and Mikey sleeps, basks in the sun and barks at people going by on the sidewalk.

Mikey likes other dogs, will play with them and is NOT an alpha personality. He could be an only dog if he were to get lots of attention and go do activities with is people. Otherwise he would like a dog friend to hang with.

Mikey is healthy, fully vetted, microchipped, current on shots, recently had a full dental with extractions and he also had knee surgery a couple of years ago. He is good to go! Plus he has this underbite thing going on that is pretty much to die for… Mikey is a good dog, his quirks are terrier things, nothing crazy… but again NO KIDS. We don’t know why he does not like kids, but he does not.

If you have not stopped reading… and you are interested in Mikey please email his foster momma cheryl@k9spirit.org or fill out an adoption application on our website, www.k9spirit.org
