Here's what the humans have to say about me:
"Dakota" is an approx 3-yo spayed female Husky/GSD who is affectionate, smart and energetic. Dakota loves people and loves to snuggle. She is great w/ small children, and presently lives with two 3-yo kids. (Paste the following link into your Web browser for a short video of Dakota playing with one of the kids: http://magis.to/MgUCIlAVHGktRwFpYw.) Dakota gets along well with other dogs her size, both male and female, but may have issues w/ small dogs. She will bark at small dogs that she sees when on walks, though she has no reaction to dogs her size or larger. Dakota likely does not do well around cats, so I will only consider a home w/out cats for her. Dakota's physique is closer to that of a Husky than a GSD, and you can see the Husky in her when she runs. She only weighs about 50 lbs.
Dakota is housetrained and obeys basic commands--she clearly has received some former training. She walks well on a leash and loves to ride in the car. Though Dakota is clearly a Husky mix, she does not try to jump the fence nor does she have the flight-tendencies that some Huskies have. In fact, Dakota has pretty good recall off-leash.
Dakota can get a little snippy when it comes to sharing the attention of her person w/ another dog, but she backs down quickly w/ just a verbal rebuke. She is also a little possessive of her toys, so she needs a little work on that issue. Otherwise, Dakota is just a sweet, happy-go-lucky dog that would do well in an active home with or without a larger, playful dog.
Dakota was rescued from the Sac County Shelter pm 5-8-14. She had previously been adopted by someone from the same shelter, but they returned her because she was aggressive towards their dogs. My hunch is that the former adopter's dogs were little dogs, as Dakota has hardly shown any aggression towards the bigger dogs that she's been with at GSRSV's facility and her current foster home in Brentwood.
