My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Chong is the brother or Cheech and is an amazing young boy. He is great with everyone including people of all ages, other pets including cats and is a gentle, loving and loyal companion. He is a large dog weighing just over 70 lbs and is 8 months old. We don't know what he is mixed with but obviously a large breed dog. For his size however he is amazing.

Here is what his foster parent had to say:

Chong is the perfect balance of energetic puppy and easy going dog. He enjoys playing with people but is also content to kick back and nap. He is extremely affectionate and always happy to play. He will immediately become your best friend. He is a very loyal dog. He is sociable with strangers but always comes to me whenever I enter the area. He is also a huge fan of belly rubs. He loves to play but after a long day of work he is ready to relax.

Chong is really social with everyone he has met. He is a bit quiet at first when meeting people but warms up quickly. He has not had much socialization with children, but when on walks, he does not mind being petted and is very friendly. On walks he is indifferent to other dogs even if they are going crazy. With cats he also acts pretty indifferent but he has less exposure with them. On walks when other dogs come in close he is sociable with them, but not overly.

He does get a little anxious when I leave. He has been living in a small apartment complex, and I have talked to the neighbours who have had no issues with hearing his barking, so it is not excessive by any means. He has been walked all around down-town Hamilton and shows no fear, and slept right through a thunderstorm. He loves to go for walks and lounge around the house. He is a big fan of sniffing any and everything. He also enjoys playing with his toys, tennis balls specifically.

He is good in the home and doesn't get into anything. He just plays with his toys. I haven't had any issues with him counter surfing. He knows sit, off, and down. We have been working with him to learn sit and drop. He is fully house trained. He works outdoors with me so this has not been too much of an issue. He is crate trained. He sleeps in the crate at night, and we have got him used to using it by having him in it throughout the day to help make him accustomed to it. The longest that he is left in the crate is over night, and usually for no more then 7 hours at the max. He is leash trained. We go walking a lot and although he is still curious of just about everything he will come when called and doesn't try to run away. He never tries to bolt out the door but enjoys being in the backyard whenever possible. He is excellent in the car! He rides with me everyday for over an hour and never makes a sound. He sleeps in the back for the majority of the ride and has no problems getting in and out.

I think that Chong would do well in a number of homes. Based on his size he may to better with kids who are a bit older, but even with smaller kids he is a loyal dog who I believe would be a great companion for any family. He would definitely do better in a home where he has access to a backyard, or is able to go on frequent walks as he loves the outdoors.

If you would like to make Chong part of your family, please submit an application for consideration.
