My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

My name is Lucy and I am 3 years old. I was born into this world a purebred Rottweiler, at least that’s what the man who had me thought. I was the victim of human greed and ignorance and it all started when I was just a few weeks old. One day, the man reached down to pick me up. He handed me to his friend. I gave his friend lots of kisses, wagging my tail as fast as I could. I was happy to be held and loved the attention. Then he put me on the table, I rolled over, wanting my belly rubbed like before. I heard the man tell his friend to hold me still. I noticed that there were other things around me on the table. I thought to myself, are these toys for me? The man was standing behind me as I felt him holding my tail; he picked up one of the shiny toys on the table and told his friend to be ready. The next thing I felt was pain shooting up my spine and throughout my body. I turned to see, and there lay my tail all by itself. For hours I laid under the table in agony. At some point, it stopped hurting. Was I a bad girl, is that why he did this to me? Then, I heard the man say to his friend, that he was going to make a lot of money off of me. At the time, I didn’t understand what he meant. Once my stub healed, the man put me in the car and drove me around every day. We met several people, each time he introduced me as his “Rottweiler Puppy”. He told them that I was for sale. Several more weeks went by and I was getting bigger, and my body was changing. As the man realized that my ears were standing straight up and that my snout was getting longer, he got angry. He said that I was no good and that he had no use for me anymore. Those words stabbed into my heart painfully like the day he took my tail. Day by day, I saw less and less of the man. My food bowl stayed empty. I lost so much weight and I felt sick inside. Then one day as I lay in the sun trying to keep warm, the man comes to the gate. I was so happy to see him! He opened the gate and told me to come. I wasted no time and went over to him. Wagging my whole body from side to side, I walked out of the yard and he closed the gate behind me. He shouted at me and said, “Go away and don’t come back”! Tears rushed down my face, I hung my head down and did as he said. As I walked the street, alone and heartbroken; I asked God to end my suffering, I can’t take much more. Just then, I came upon a woman who was walking her dog. They were in front of me, so I continued to walk, till I was beside them. The woman looked at me, saw my tear soaked face and said, “You’re coming home with us, you are safe now”! I followed her to the house and before I stepped inside, I turned and faced the street. I looked up at the sky and thanked God for answering my prayers. Since being rescued, I have learned that, I will never be a substitute for anything I am not, nor will I be used to improve people’s images of themselves. My Rescue Family told me that I will be loved because of who I am, not someone’s idea of who I should be. And, that I will never suffer for someone’s anger or stupidity. I don’t hold any grudges. In fact, I love all of God’s creatures; whether, two or four legged. I am well- mannered and easy-going.
