My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hello friends! My name is Barkley and I am pleased to meet you! Let me tell you a little bit more about myself so that we can get to know each other better.

I am a senior fella who is looking for a loving family who will snuggle me and give me lots of love! The doggy doctor estimates that I'm about 10 years old, am Heartworm negative, have all my vaccines, and am ready to look for my fur-ever family! I came to the awesome folks at NBS Animal Rescue when I was found lying terribly injured in the middle of a Detroit street after someone had hit me with their vehicle. A kind Samaritan saw me, stopped and picked me up and took me to the MHS which was unfortunately closed. It just so happened that one NBS's board members was pulling out of the parking lot and offered to help me get back to my owners and to a vet. My owners loved me very much but were unable to pay for my veterinary needs. It was very difficult for them to do, but they did what was best for me and gave me to NBSAR to care for. The kind folks at NBSAR made sure I got right to the vet and that I had my surgery to repair my broken pelvis as soon as I was well enough to handle surgery. I'm happy to report that 5 weeks post surgery I'm getting around quite well, am doing a fantastic job at my hydrotherapy sessions each week, and am loving exploring my foster home's fenced yard. I'm going to get my teeth cleaned and neutered this coming week and then I'll be all set to find my fur-ever family! Could it be with you?

My perfect home would be with a calm family who was home most of the day, a fenced yard for me to romp and explore, and a home with no small children as I'm only about 4.5 lbs and could easily accidentally get hurt. My foster home has two small dogs who are very mellow and friendly, but I'd be OK with being the only dog in my new home too.

My adoption fee is $250.00 and includes DHPP vaccine, bordatella vaccine, De-worming, spay/neuter surgery, rabies vaccine, heartworm test, heartworm preventative, flea/tick preventative, microchip insertion, bath, nail trim, ear cleaning, leash and collar and one week's worth of food.

If you think that I might be the perfect addition to your family, please contact the awesome volunteers at N.B.S. Animal Rescue at nbsanimalrescue@gmail.com for any additional information or answers to any questions you might have.

You can fill out a simple online adoption application at www.nbsar.org and we will start processing your application right away! We do require that persons interested in meeting me apply online and be approved as an adopter first so please visit our website and submit your application today!

Our adoption process requires that any pet in your household be current on it's vaccinations and heartworm preventative as well as spayed/neutered unless there is a documented medical reason on file with your veterinarian. Dogs must be current on DHLPP, Rabies, and Heartworm Preventative, cats must be current on Distemper, Rabies, and Heartworm Preventative at the time of application.

While I hope that you have fallen in love with me and will fill out an adoption application right away, I understand if I might not be the perfect pup for your family. Would you please help me by sharing my picture and information on your Facebook page, or e-mail to your friends and family members? I'm a great pup and I really deserve a loving family to give all of my love and puppy kisses to! Thank-you for your help!
