Diego's Story...
Diego is a beautiful 1 year old male hound mix. His family went away on vacation, and since they'd have to pay for boarding for Diego, it was just easier to dump him off at the high kill shelter. He has proven he is most worthy of living and would make anyone happy in their home. After months of tlc, Diego has regained his confidence and has gotten over his separation anxiety. He is a very well behaved boy and loves other animals.

If you'd like to meet this dog, please send an email to sweetestdogrescue@gmail.com and ask that an adoption application be sent to you. Once you've been approved, we'd be delighted to set up the meet and greet!

Why Adoption is a Great Option

Diego, a Shelter Island Hound (Unknown Type) dog was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Hound (Unknown Type) for sale in Shelter Island, or seeking a Hound (Unknown Type) dog from a breeder in Shelter Island.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Shelter Island already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Shelter Island breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Hound (Unknown Type) breeders who help with Hound (Unknown Type) rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Shelter Island paves the way for another one to be saved.
