My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Precious is a young girl approximately a year old. She is a very affectionate, playful and fun loving companion. She loves everyone and enjoys going for walks and playing a good game of tug-o-war. She will need some finishing touches with her training but she is a young dog and coming along nicely. She has a great personality and gorgeous eyes. She thinks she is a lap dog and loves being with her people. Precious currently weighs 39 lbs.

Here is what else her foster family had to say:

Precious is a loving dog. She loves showing her affection through kisses and cuddling. She loves being around people and will even try to join you in the shower. She is not afraid of water and loves to play in it. She is very easy going, and well mannered in the home. She is a curious pup and loves looking out the window and watching the world go by. She still has some puppy energy and loves to play. She is intelligent and learns quite quickly.

Precious is a very social dog and tries to make friends with everyone she meets. She is still learning how to meet people nicely and not to jump up but when we did encounter a young child she sat very nicely and allowed the child to pet her. She gave the child a kiss before we carried on with our walk. She does get excited when she sees another dog as she loves to play. She is learning to sit after the initial sniff and greet, but will need further training. She would not do well with cats as I suspect she would either chase them or try to play with them. She would do well with another friendly young dog in the home to play with.

She is well behaved and calm in the home as long as she has enough exercise. She knows her basic commands such as "sit", "down", "drop it", "leave it", "come", "no" and is learning the command "off". She does not try to steal food. She begs for the first little while with her gorgeous eyes, but gives up easily and will lie down. She is under the impression that she is a lap dog and will try to sit on your lap no matter how awkward it is to fit. Precious is very quiet in the home. She only barks and whines when initially left alone but settles quickly. Even on walks she is very quiet and only whines when she is not allowed to chase a squirrel. She does not whine or bark at other dogs or people. Precious is well on her way to being house trained. She knows that she is not supposed to go inside, but does not quite know how to ask to go outside so you have to make sure you let her out at appropriate intervals.

Precious is nearly leash trained. She will sit still for her leash to be put on. She is also learning that she has to remain seated in order for the door to open. She is learning not to pull, and will sit down when told to stop. She will pull very hard when she sees a squirrel, but will sit down and whine with a tug of the leash. We are currently trying to desensitize her to squirrels, so we will just continue to walking with quick tugs on the leash to signal Precious to follow. If she falls behind, she will catch up when told to "come". She is also learning to sit before crossing the street.

Precious is currently being crate trained. At night once she is placed in the crate she settles down very quickly. We have the crate in the bedroom, so she can see that we settle at the same time. When placed in the crate at night she will remain calm and will rest until morning. When left alone she is also placed in the crate with a treat, but will cry and whine for the first little while. She has not been left alone for more than an hour or two in her crate.

Precious is very good in the car. She will jump in the car willingly. We have been tying her leash to the backseat head rest, so she can't jump into the front. She likes looking out the window, but will also lay down in the back seat.

Precious loves going for walks and is a curious pup talking in all the new sights and sounds. She is an awesome hiking buddy and has quite the endurance. She gets excited when she sees other animals and will try to chase anything from chipmunks to deer. When we get home however, she is perfectly content to cuddle up on the couch. She is adorable when she sleeps. She snores and can be moved in any position and will not care. She also loves to play fetch and tug of war. She is very strong at tug of war. She loves toys with squeakers, and will squeak them for her own enjoyment. She will also squeak a toy and nudge you with it to initiate play.

Precious is not fearful of anything in particular. On the first few walks she did not like passing cars, but has since become desensitized to them. She does not like the sound of yelling even if it is not directed towards or near her. When she heard yelling outside her ears and tail went down. She also does not like the sound of thunder and will cuddle up for safety.

Precious would do well in an active home with no young children or cats. She would do well with another dog similar in size and energy. It would be ideal for her to have a backyard to run around and play in, but she will also need to be taken on at least one long walk a day. A family with older children, younger couple, or an active person who could put in the time with her would best. She could be a great family dog with people that were willing to continue her training and give her the exercise she needs.

If you think this young girl would be a good fit for your family, please submit an application for consideration.
