My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Spessartina is a delicate blossom of cat. If she were a lady, she would probably require a fainting couch and smelling salts. She sits with her tail covering her face like a fan, and when you reach out to pet her she purrs softly and trembles with pleasure and gratitude. She wouldn’t like gory movies or crass comedies, preferring something more subtle and pastel. Despite her gentility, Spessartina lived a hard life outdoors. She was found by our TNR program, underweight, hungry, and sick. She tested positive for FIV*, which can happen when a cat spends much of her life living outdoors unspayed and fending for herself. Spessartina made it through the tough times, and came through resilient as a gemstone. She would love someone to give her the gentle affection she desires in a quiet, peaceful home removed from the ghastly alleyways of the city. Spessartina was born around 2011.

*Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV) causes a weakening of the immune system in cats. It's often compared to human HIV, but FIV is not transferable to humans or other species. It is also difficult to transfer to other sterilized cats, and we believe that mixed FIV and non-FIV households can work if managed properly. If kept indoors in a stress-free environment, with regular medical care and high-quality nutrition, most FIV+ cats live long and healthy lives. Tree House staff can help answer your questions to see if an FIV+ cat is the right choice for you. FIV+ cats adopted from Tree House are eligible for a lifetime veterinary-care plan that includes a free annual exam and discounted treatments.
