My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Have you ever gotten an eyelash in your eye and been unable to get it out?. Think of how irritated your eye became and the relief you felt when the lash was finally gone. Entropian is a medical condition in which the eyelashes grow in, not out, causing discomfort and pain on a continuous basis. It can be corrected with surgery.

Monroe was born with entropian. The woman who rescued him as a stray kitten from the side of a road named him Freeway and did the best she could for him but was unable to afford a specialist to evaluate his eyes. He continued to live with the condition for 2.5 years until he came into a Dusty Paws Rescue affiliated home. By this time, his eyes were so badly infected that he had to be on antibiotics for 5 weeks before a specialist could do surgery. He had to wear an E collar for weeks afterward as his eyes slowly opened from the slits they had been. It was a happy day when his foster mom looked at him and actually saw shiny eyes looking back.

Now a dignified adult, and renamed with a name to suit, Monroe is hoping his lucky streak continues as he looks for his forever home. He is one of the most affectionate cats his foster mom has ever had...as though he is expressing gratitude at being pain free. He is a lap sitter and purrs up a storm, yet is not a needy kitty. He has vision but is guarded about his eyes and would do best as an only cat or with another easy going kitty. Same applies to dogs - he is in a home with dogs but prefers the one-on-one attention of his humans.
