My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Suzy: 2 1/2 Year Old Black Lab Spayed Female 85 Pounds
(Needs to lose 10 pounds)

Hello everyone I am sweet, shy Suzy!

My tale is not a horrible one but I am sure looking forward to a much more stable home. I was purchased from a breeder when I was just a little puppy. This wonderful person came and selected me and I thought wow, I am off to my nice forever home. My owner had a plan for me and that plan did not work out so well. (He and his brother thought it was a good idea to buy me and also my friend and let us have puppies. Times were a little tough financially so they felt this was a way to make some money.) He also purchased my mating partner when he was a puppy. (Sounds like something out of the old ages. Selecting and buying partners. I will have to say he did select a nice and handsome partner for me!) We got to run around and play together as puppies and until I went into heat we were having a blast. Well I got pregnant at a very young age and out came 12 puppies. I was trying to be a very good mom but after a couple of days all my puppies were taken away from me and I never did see any of them again. (All of Suzy's puppies died and the vet said that he was not sure why this would happen. The only thing he could think of is something genetic. The owner then decided it was not a good idea to breed the two any longer so he go the two of them fixed.) My owner has tried to do the best he could but for some reason two more dogs came home - two golden retrievers. We got to play with each other and all of us were just one happy pack. He would get us out for walks when he could but we did not get much attention. He would feed us and try to keep up with our vet care. All of a sudden there was a new girlfriend and when she came into the picture we were all put out in the back yard. Since we have been in the yard we have not been taken out on a regular basis, we have gotten fleas, we are bored so we eat the trash in the yard and it seems all of us just lay around and any glimpse of the happy days are gone. I heard the owner talking to a rescue group and he was saying that all of us have to go together. He was getting desperate so he put an add on the internet stating come and take us today or we were all going to the shelter - not a good thing! I kept telling my friends that our prayers would be answered and they were! A nice rescue group stepped up - Golden Gate Lab Rescue - they called Golden Retriever Rescue and before we knew what was happening our owner loaded us up in the car and took us to this nice boarding facility. I know we are going to be in a nice place soon - I just need to be patient. I get to play with other dogs and I get to see people on a regular basis. I was taken to the Vet and got a clean bill of health. If you are looking to adopt a very nice girl, will help me lose a few pounds and are willing to be patient with me while you show me the BIG WORLD - please come and see me!

What we know about Suzy:

The owner could not take care of his dogs so we took all four of them in. He says that they are very sweet - which they are, have been outside for the last year. (Was inside before but would need to not be given freedom in the home to make sure they understood the boundaries.) He did get them out for walks the first few years, she will come when called, knows a few commands: sit, fetch, drop and come. Suzy is great with other dogs but will chase cats. She loves to swim, play fetch and Suzy will need help with better leash manners. The adopter will need to let Suzy settle in the home and start taking her out so she can become a happy girl again!

She is spayed, has all her shots, heartworm negative, dewormed she needs a microchipped. Suzy is located in Mountain View.

If you are interested in this beautiful calm girl, call Rescue Rep Liz 415-613-6374.
(Please keep in mind we are all volunteers, most of us work full time and we all have personal lives. I do call everyone back within 2-3 days so please be patient and I will be back in touch with you. When the dogs are in foster homes then it may take longer as we need to touch base with the fosters for updates on the dogs. We work very hard to make the right matches for the dogs and for the new owners. We get 3-5 dogs per week and we do not have a facility that we keep the dogs housed in. They are scattered all over the Bay Area.)
