Here's what the humans have to say about me:
"Lexi" is a beautiful, spayed 7¾-yo (born 9-15-06) spayed female GSD with a wonderful, friendly temperament. Lexi is great with people of all ages (including infants); she is a little timid with strangers at first, but warms up quickly--then likes to be petted. Lexi is great with other dogs, and great with cats--even other people's cats. One thing that Lexi is not is a watchdog--she rarely barks, even at people who come to the door. Lexi is in great health and doesn't show her age at all. Even her teeth look like those of a dog years younger! She weighs about 75 lbs.
Lexi is extremely well behaved and responds quickly to basic commands. She is great in the house, though her people keep her outside when they are gone. She is very good on leash and rides well in a car. She does not play with toys generally, but did run after a tennis ball when I evaluated her. Lexi's owners (who have had her since she was 10 mos old) had never been around a body of water before, but she immediately took an interest in the pond at the GSRSV facility and within minutes was wading in up to her belly and almost swimming. She clearly likes water!
Lexi's owners adopted her from a rescue group in Lathrop when she was 10 mos old. Apparently, the rescue group had taken Lexi from an abusive situation. Lexi was quite timid initially, but her owners built her confidence and I did not see any signs of an abused dog in Lexi. It is clear that she has been very loved.
Lexi's owners are seeking a new home for her because their jobs keep them away from home for more than 8 hrs/day and they feel they are no longer spending enough time with her. This is clearly a difficult decision for them, but they want what's best for Lexi.
GSRSV has evaluated Lexi and is placing her as a "Program Dog." This means that GSRSV is rehoming Lexi through its adoption program while her owners continue to care for her. Lexi is located in North Natomas. Lexi's adoption fee is $150.
