My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

We would like to explain that if you are looking for a perfect dog, they are rarely found in rescue. Our dogs often have unknown histories and we do our very best to evaluate each dog with kids, cats, and other dogs as well as determine how they behave in a home. It is important to understand that we have some specific criteria for each dog based on their backgrounds and input from their foster families. The purpose of these criteria is to better match each dog with an appropriate family. While a certain dog might appeal to you based on breed, size, gender or appearance, you may not match the listed criteria. Please understand that we are not trying to make adoption difficult—we are trying to make each adoption successful for the dog and the new family.

If you have children, we suggest that prior to applying for a dog, you view the website http://www.livingwithkidsanddogs.com. The information is excellent and can help you determine which dog would be right for your family.
Cindy is a very friendly, happy rat terrier—chihuahua mix who is 6 years young and who weighs just 7 pounds. Cindy gets along with dogs of all sizes but hasn’t lived with cats or young kids. She would be fine with kids who are 10 and up. Every morning she has long playtimes with two of her foster canine pals and she plays politely and happily throught the day. She would probably be very lonely as an only dog and will do best with another smaller playful dog. Cindy is house trained but she has some special needs due to a birth defect. We found that Cindy’s ureters did not carry urine to her bladder but rather implanted too low. This caused her to leak urine constantly. We had surgery performed by a board certified surgeon and her urinary system is now working correctly. However, she does require a very inexpensive dose of medicine every 6-8 hours to help her maintain control. Even with this medication though, she will have occational leakages during the day and night. For this reason, Cindy usually wears a cute diaper inside with a half a Poise pad inside. It takes just a quick second to remove or put the diaper back on. Cindy has such a great personality that even this special need should not cause a potential adopter to overlook her. She has been with her foster family for many months during this surgery and recovery procedure and is a great companion to have around. But, she is now more than ready for her forever home!!! Cindy does LOVE to have a fenced yard to run in and if she is let out frequently she will keep her diaper dry. Cindy is with Happy Hound Rescue, a 501c3 all volunteer rescue and is in a foster home. Her adoption fee is $300 despite her vet expenses of $2000!!!
