My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Bran is a very cute 10 month old male Border Collie mix. He is on the smaller side for a Border Collie, but seems to have some more growing to do! Except for a small patch of white on his chest and a few white hairs at the tip of his tail, Bran is completely black. Bran has a great temperament, he has loved everyone he has met so far, people and animals included. He is playful and loves to run, top speed, from person to person for pets. With other dogs, Bran doesn't even wait for a proper greeting before jumping right into play. Some dogs love him for this and get into the play right away, other dogs don't appreciate the lack of warning! As he meets more dogs, he should learn some manners and how to properly greet another dog before playtime! We have not had Bran around cats or children yet, but don't expect a problem with either**. Bran is a pretty high energy boy. He will go, go, go for about a half an hour of serious playtime, and then takes a small break before starting up again. He plays with toys, but doesn't have a huge drive for them. He IS very treat motivated and learns quickly with a little motivation.

Bran is a very quick learner and now knows "sit", "down", come", and "stay". He even loves doing "puppy pushups" (sit-down-stand)! Bran heels fairly well. He will play fetch too. The fireworks on the 4th of July didn't faze Bran at all. and neither does thunder. When he first got to his foster home he would bark at the neighbor's dog and at people and dogs he saw while on a walk, but he stopped doing this within a few days. Bran is crate trained and housetrained. As he is still young, Bran is crated overnight and while his owner is at work. Bran has not jumped up on the furniture (even though his foster sister does), nor does he chew on shoes (even though there are plenty of opportunities for that!) Bran needs exercise and mental stimulation (he loves to learn!), but is not a high maintenance guy.

When Bran first arrived at the shelter, he had to be treated for parvo. After he fully recovered from that, he was quickly adopted! Unfortunately he was returned a few weeks later after having gotten in to something at his new home. He was having serious neurological issues, including seizures. The shelter watched over him and he's recovered nicely for the past few weeks before finding himself at NBCR! Bran was on seizure medicine when he first came to NBCR as he was still having some "twitching". As of 8/27, Bran has been off of his medicine for several weeks with no problems.

Bran likes to play with the neighbor dog, a yellow lab, and plays fetch. He also likes to just lounge around the house and yard!

The only bad thing to be said about Bran is that he tends to make his older foster sister cranky. However, they are now walking together, one on either side, without a struggle.

Overall, Bran is a great dog and will thrive with people who will spend the time to teach him. He is a VERY fast learner!
