My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

We got desperate emails from a Texas rescuer about Lacey...no one could accept that this gorgeous and super-affectionate pup was about to be euthanized in Texas. Both the shelter and the rescuers were desperate to find a foster, rescue or adopter immediately for this Wheaten/Airdale Terrier mix (or so the shelter and TX vets described her breed mix) with the incredible temperament. Lacey carries the coat with the golden beauty and the facial look of the Wheaten Terrier with the longer legs/body of the Airdale. But as beautiful as Lacey is on the outside, it doesn't compare with the love and good-will that flows from the heart of this 5-month old, 20 lb pup (we anticipate Lacey to be approximately 40-50 lbs when full grown). As our rescuer drove away from the dreary, high-kill shelter, Lacey was so filled with joy that she climbed into the front seat, laid her paw on Pams' leg, breathed a huge sigh of relief and fell fast asleep. She slept all the way to the vet's office for her assessments...and passed with flying colors! So...off Lacey went to her foster home to be taught about respectful house behavior. Lacey's great foster mom continues work on her socialization skills in the real world..trips to Home Depot, Pet Smart and the park are bringing out Lacey's love for people and other dogs. She is developing her skills and continues to get sweeter and more comfortable. Lacey's time in Texas waiting for her transport is time well spent..she appears to be bouncing back from any trauma she suffered at the shelter. We feel..as does her TX foster family...that with a loving, nurturing and committed home..Lacey will leave her sad start behind. With patient and consistent leadership, Lacey's self-confidence will emerge. She will settle into her new life with an open to anything attitude of a puppy. While she may be initially shy, once she's assured...she will emerge with all the joy that's living inside of her. Since Lacey has gotten an A+ for sweetness, cuddling and general positive behavior...she's ready to be a devoted family member. We envision Lacey in a home either with older children who can play with and love Lacey with a gentle touch or in a home with active retirees who will shower time and attention on this devoted pup. We would never want Lacey in a situation where she's alone for many hours. Instead we would love for her to be taken along on hikes (she would be overjoyed and a natural on the trails), adventures and visits with dog-loving friends. She's almost impossible not to fall in love with...as a puppy, Lacey is a blank slate just waiting for direction to be the best adult dog she can be. Lacey also travels like a champ - she loves nothing more than to come along on errands, hikes and any adventure that keeps her together with those she loves. She would also be a natural to come along on vacations or getaways...she's so pleasant with everyone that she attracts admirers everywhere she goes.
Lacey is said to be a non-shedding girl and will therefore require periodic grooming and great nutrition to keep her stunning coat healthy and matt-free. She is not, however, suggested for those with severe allergy concerns.

Lacey will be arriving on transport in Denver on 6/27. Applications are currently being accepted for this exceptional and very sweet family companion.
