My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

DOB November 30, 2012

When Bowie first came into foster, he was scared of his own shadow and would cower and flinch from human contact. Over a period of weeks, he became used to the routine in his foster home, and gradually allowed himself to be petted from time to time.
In order to further his socialization, he was moved from the room he was living in to a cage in the main living room of his foster home, where he was exposed to contact with the resident cats and dogs. In this environment he has made great strides, and is a confident, funny, chatty little man, who likes to play though the bars of his cage, although he has not learned to sheath his claws yet. He readily allows petting within the cage, and likes to sit on top of his covered litter box from where he can see out through the window. He is fairly easily startled, and will run to his pillow when he is uncertain.
He gets very overwhelmed with new situations. We are currently working on time outside of the cage, with a harness and retractable leash. He is good with being picked up and carried around the room, and likes to be brushed. When put on the floor, he remains still, but will stretch his head and greet the house cats and dogs without fear, and will sometimes chirp and try to rub against whichever animal is close to him. Hopefully he will soon feel comfortable with taking a few steps and exploring his surroundings.
Bowie would do best in a quiet calm household with experienced family who will have the patience to continue with the slow process of helping him to bring out his trust. He would likely do well with a calm confident cat to keep him company and show him the ropes. Because of his nervousness, a home with children may not be the best environment for him.
Is Bowie the right fit for your home with lots of love and patience to give?
