My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Zoey is a darling little dog. She is a young girl approximately 9 months old but is very well behaved and intelligent. She would be a great dog to take to work with you or as a companion for older children. She is fine with other calm dogs and is great with cats. Zoey weighs approximately 9 lbs.

Here is what her foster mom had to say:

Zoey is a very sweet, gentle and affectionate little dog, who loves meeting everyone. She loves playing with her toys and playing fetch and she is great at bringing her toys back to you. She also loves going for long walks and meeting new people and new dogs. Zoey is also a great dog to travel with, she came camping with us for the weekend and was so well behaved. She was fantastic with the longer then usual drive in the car and was great with adjusting to her new surroundings.

Zoey is very friendly with everyone and loves getting attention. She has shown some shyness towards a few young excited children that were hyper about meeting her and Zoey just wanted to hide. She seems to like people and dogs more relaxed and calm. Zoey does however get along well with most dogs and she has also met a few cats as well and has been very good with them.

Zoey is still pretty thin but she is putting weight on slowly. She eats just under a cup of food a day, but eats it in small portions throughout the day. The rescue team told me that Zoey is about 9 months old and I would agree that she is under a year old as you can see the puppy curiosity in her.

I would say that Zoey is a moderate energy dog. She is very calm and quiet in the home but a few times a day she loves to run around the backyard and play with her toys and she also loves going for her evening walk which usually tires her out and then she just wants to relax and cuddle with her people.

Zoey is very well behaved in the house and has been left alone for about 6 hours with full roam of the house and has had no issue's; we usually return to a sleeping little angel. Zoey loves to cuddle and get affection, she is the perfect snuggle buddy. She is also very playful and loves to throw her toys around and play fetch with her people, and also loves going on walks to explore the neighbourhood. But if you are too busy to play or snuggle with her she will play by herself with her toys or grab her favorite antler to chew on or she will go and sit in the window quietly and watch people walk by. She is very quiet in the home and the only time we hear her bark is when she is playing chase with the sparrows in the backyard. She doesn't always bark at every sparrow she sees, she will bark at them only if they are sitting along our fence and she feels like making them fly so she can prance after them.

Zoey has great house manners and has never chewed anything that she shouldn't. She is also very respectful around food and will either go and lay in her bed or play with her toys while you eat or relax in the window. Zoey has learned a few basic commands that we have taught her such as sit, come and stay and she is doing better with drop it. We are still working on laydown and teaching her to give us her paw. Zoey is fully housetrained and has never had an accident in the house, she will signal that she needs to go out by going to the back door or if you ask her if she needs to pee then she will go to the door. I do not use a crate for her and do not see a need to because she is well behaved and is allowed full roam of the house. Zoey is pretty good on the leash, she does walk ahead put doesn't pull, and as your walking her she will keep looking back to make sure your close. She has never tried to bolt out of the house or the car she is very good when told to stay and wait. Zoey rides great in the car, once she is done lookin out the window she just curls up and goes to sleep.

I think Zoey would be happiest in a calm and quiet home where she doesn't feel overwhelmed by to much excitement and noises. I think she would be good for a family with older kids (12 and up) that know how to be calm and gentle with her, and would love to play with her in the backyard with her toys. Another calm dog would be ok as well, and a home with cats would work too as she doesn't seem to even care that they are around. I also feel that a backyard is a must for this little sweetheart as she just loves to run around after her toys and roll around in the grass freely.

If you think this little princess would be a good fit for your family, please submit an application for consideration.
