My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Update as of August 2014:

Gemma is truly a little gem! She is such a good girl. She really is a very easy dog to have in the house. Most of the time you can find her curled up on a blanket or a pillow. If she is not in one of those places, she will be found on someone’s lap.
Gemma has become really comfortable with routine. She waits patiently at the door now when needing to be let outside, never any accidents in the house. At first it took her a long time to eat her food, usually leaving her bowl several times in search of some love, but now she comfortably eats her food in one sitting with maybe a reminder or two to “go and eat!” She easily goes into her crate when we tell her “bedtime.” She goes in her crate when we leave the house for longer periods of time, but is easily left out when we leave for short trips out of the house. Gemma cares more about being with people than dog toys. She watches our dog play and doesn’t see the point in them. But, she does love chewing on a bone. Gemma loves her walks. She is using a gentle leader. She needs some reminders that other dogs are okay! At night time, with no trouble, she goes to sleep usually on a bed, not making a sound until morning!!! She loves being cuddled up on a small dog pillow or a soft blanket which she puts into the perfect position for a whole nights rest.

When you see Gemma you can guarantee that her tail will be wagging and that she is ready to give some loving licks. She is a very happy dog who doesn’t ask for much but a safe home with lots of love.

Let me introduce you to Gemma. She is about 4 years old. She is a beagle pug cross, commonly called a Puggle, which makes her a great sized dog for any living situation. She is about 20lbs and is white and brown. She has the cutest tail that curves all the way around which is always wagging! She is a sweet dog with a great temperament and personality. Each foster dog we get we think we will not connect with as much as the previous dog. But Gemma did it again, she won our hearts!

Gemma was a stray at a rural animal control facility and was not claimed by her owner. She came to us obviously having had puppies before, as well as having a hernia that should have been fixed years ago. We had that fixed when she was spayed so she is all better now. She is a very sweet dog with a lot of love to give. She wants to be curled up by your side or at least in the same room as you are. Her tail is always wagging and she is always willing to give lots of licks!! She deserves a family who is devoted to her as she will be to them. She needs to belong in a home where she will not be allowed to roam free and get lost, and where she can be confident she is in her forever home, not being lost or abandoned again.

Gemma is the right size for any type of home. She is usually very calm and quiet indoors, barking at the occasional distraction outside or if caught off guard. Most of the time you will find her cuddled up next to you, or following you wherever you go, of course with her tail wagging. She would do well in an apartment setting as well as a condo or a house as she is usually calm. Gemma loves going for walks. Her little legs walk fast keeping up with you. She is not a dog who needs excessive running or activity. She does well with regular walks and playing in the yard as she likes to be outside with us.

Gemma loves to be snuggled and pet. She is happiest when she is by your side, getting pets or when she's getting belly rubs as she's right beside you. When being petted she will often roll to her back for a belly rub. She can never get enough love and affection. Gemma will allow you to do anything to her if she's told she's a good dog and a couple pets accompany it. She loves to be brushed and will lie still while you brush her. She was also well behaved as I trimmed her nails.

Gemma has been such a good girl during her stay with us and to top it off she is housetrained, not a single accident. She is also crate trained. She sleeps in her crate most nights and stays in her crate when we are away from the house. She will occasionally go into her crate for a rest during the day.

Gemma is living in a full house! She has a golden retriever and four cats to keep her company. Although she is doing fine surrounded by all these other pets, we feel Gemma would do well in a home where she is the only pet, receiving all the love and affection for herself. Often with the other pets she feels nervous and is unsure of them.

Gemma is being fostered in a home with three young children (8, 6, and 4 years old). The children adore her and she loves receiving affection from them. She would do very well in a home with children. Gemma is a sweet dog, with a gentle nature, and we believe that the more love she receives the better.

Gemma is being taught basic obedience in her foster home. She is learning basic commands like sit, come and stay. She needs someone who will be consistent with her and continue with her training. She has been nervous when taken out into groups surrounded by lots of people like our kids baseball game. She will need many opportunities to be taken out into different situations so she can continue to build her confidence.
Gemma is a fantastic family dog who has all the love in the world to give. Whomever her future owners may be are very lucky people.  With continued training and socialization, Gemma is going to be one amazing dog. She has been an easy dog to foster and an even easier dog to love.
