Here's what the humans have to say about me:
MEET HARRY HOUDINI:
Like the great magician, this little 12lb, red longhaired, three and a half year old Dachshund is a talented artist. Like all great artists, our HARRY HOUDINI is beautiful (long red hair and super long body) and talented in other areas too: He loves to run very fast, jump super high and swim as long as you'll let him. In fact, rumor has it that if you give him a kiddie pool, he will be in Heaven. HARRY HOUDINI likes to walk and explore the outdoors. He has even walked to Canada (from the border of North Dakota)! He loves to chase and retrieve balls as well as wildlife (like most doxies). Would you like a doxie that can bring magic and entertainment to your life? Can you bring unconditional love to his?
NOTE FROM ODR, INC.: HARRY HOUDINI is new to us and we're evaluating him as we write this bio. Things we know for sure already...he is affectionate and loves being with his family. Unfortunately, his former family wasn't able to spend as much time with him as needed and he learned to become a bit of an 'escape artist.' His new family will need to have someone that can take him for walks and play with him. We also know from his veterinary examination that our little HARRY has had some trauma and has been in at least one fight with another dog, which could explain the anxiety he experiences around other male dogs, men, strangers, children and when going in the car. The anxiety can manifest itself in emotional urinating, nipping or barking. As of 7/8/2014, his shots were brought completely up to date, he was neutered and we're evaluating his behaviors; he will soon be ready for his forever family. Let us know if you'd like to get to know HARRY HOUDINI. He is looking for a special family to create magic with and love forever.
OUR CRITERIA (aka The Fine Print):
Based on 30 years of experience with rescue doxies, we have pretty strict criteria. Do you work from home/stay at home/work part time? Have a securely fenced yard? We do not place same gender dogs in a home unless they were raised together, and children need to be 10 or older (some exceptions IF the dog is a puppy or the child has been raised with a doxie). We prefer non smokers and a home with no other small animals (ferrets, hamsters, etc) Cats are on a case by case basis depending on the dog. Remember, these are rescues; many were surrendered because of these issues.
WHAT YOU GET IN RETURN WITH YOUR LITTLE RESCUE:
All our dogs are fully vetted, including spay/neuter, rabies, DHPP, Bordetella, Pyrantyl, nails trimmed, and dental when needed. They'll come with a basket of goodies, food, toys and a custom made harness. The adoption fee is $395, sorry no exceptions, as this covers the cost to rescue them, vet them and take care of them while in our rescue. It also helps towards the care of other doxies that come with huge vet or dental bills or need extensive behavioral training.
Can you give HARRY HOUDINI a happy, carefree life again? If interested, please complete the adoption questionnaire at www.odr-inc.org and email it to: jrangan@comcast.net - the adoption committee will be in touch with you within 48 hours so please be patient as we are solely volunteer run.
