My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Jasmine was dropped at the shelter when her owner passed and there was no one left to care for her. She is a sweet little dog that just needs some love and tlc. She was quite matted when she came in so has been totally shaved down but once her coat grows back she will have a lovely full coat. Jasmine is approximately 6 - 8 years old and currently weighs 11 lbs.

Here is what her foster family had to say:

Jasmine is a very sweet natured little dog that I can’t imagine her having any difficulties finding a home. She is always waiting with cuddles and will happily sit with you while you watch TV, garden, or study. Jasmine is a curious little girl but she does not get into things she shouldn’t. Jasmine loves company and would probably fair best in a home where there are lots of people. One of Jasmine’s favourite things to do is go for a walk. As soon as she sees the leash she is bouncing up and down. Whenever Jasmine wants something from you she will often stand on her hind legs, and place her paws in a prayer like position begging you. It will melt your heart!

Jasmine is quite healthy although she is probably a little on the skinny side. She is quite a low energy dog and will happily sit around for a few hours. She spends most of the day napping in different parts of the house. However when put in new situations or when she meets new people Jasmine’s enthusiasm and curiosity get the best of her and she can be quite high energy after a few minutes she does quiet down. Jasmine is a very social and friendly dog, in fact whenever friends come by she is quick to run to the door to introduce herself with her tail wagging the whole way. She has made many new friends in the neighbourhood, and if she had it her way would probably stop to say hello to every person we pass while going on a walk. She loves to make new dog friends whenever we go on a walk. Often I have to call her away or she may spend the whole day playing around with her new friends. She is a little apprehensive when meeting bigger dogs, and will sometimes hide behind me. We have not encountered any cats, so I can’t speak to that, and I also do not have any other dogs at home.

Jasmine has not displayed any signs of separation anxiety although she will cry and whine when left alone, and complain to you when you do return. She has not displayed fears although she is not a fan of the construction near the house and barked at the steam roller nearby. She also was quite afraid of the fireworks, which I think is quite common. Her favourite thing to do is to go for walks, as soon as she sees the leash or if I say “do you want to go for a walk?” she is bouncing off the walls. However, a close second may be to cuddle on the couch. Jasmine is generally a quiet dog and will only bark if she wants to bring your attention to something, or if she thinks there is a stranger at the door.

Jasmine hasn’t tried to steal food although you can expect to be greeted by puppy dog eyes every time you are eating a meal. She has put her paws on the chair while we are eating but when I told her “off” she did reluctantly obey. She likes to move her blanket into a circle before she sleeps and she has attempted to do this with couch cushions a few times however she did stop when I told her “no”. She understands come, no, off, sit, and stay, that being said she does not consistently listen to these commands. When you take Jasmine out to the backyard for her to go to the bathroom if you say “let’s go potty” she’ll quickly relieve herself and walk back to the door to go inside. Jasmine absolutely hates being crated. She is quite well behaved uncrated and really does not need to be crated. She is leash trained, however, whenever we go on a new route she sometimes can’t contain herself and pulls from side to side as she sniffs away. Jasmine can get a little excited in the car as she wants to keep sure that she takes in the scenery and sounds. Initially she would try to climb into my lap as I drove but she has gotten a bit better about staying in her seat.

Jasmine is an absolute delight and I know she will bring a lot of joy into whatever family she is placed in. She is loving, and well behaved. She is very well natured and will melt your heart with the way she rests her little chin on your knee. She really is a pleasure to have in the home.

I think Jasmine would thrive in a family home where there is usually one or more family members around. She would work especially well in a situation where someone works from home since she will happily sit by your side as you work, ever ready for a cuddle break.

If you would like to add this darling little girl to your family, please submit a application for consideration.
