My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Our foster dogs live as family members in the foster home until chosen for adoption. You can contact his foster mom by emailing her at givememybook@yahoo.com for more information on how Smokey can become part of your family.

Hi, my name is Smokey.

I am a three year old Pit mix. I was found roaming the streets trying to find food and shelter. I was brought to the shelter for my safety. Since then I have gone into a wonderful foster home.

My foster mom says this about me; "He's great! He's super sweet. He loves snuggles. If we'd let him, he'd spend every night in bed with us, but he also stays down when we tell him. He’s still a total sweetheart that loves cuddles and butt/shoulder scratches (he practically melts when you get the right spot) and he loves to play with our dog and with us. Tug of war is one of his favorites. He’s awesome!

He loves walks and will very soon know how to heel. The moment you grab the leash he sits and puts his head up so you can place the collar and leash on him. He knows sit, stay, and release and does it most of the time. We're working on knowing lay down. He knows sit for sure. He also will sit and stay in the crate until you tell him to come out and do the same for the doors. We’ve been teaching both our dogs this. He knows stay, too. Lay down…still working on it. I think the concept confuses him. Though one thing, you do have to give him a bit of time. He has sore joints so sits rather slowly whenever he sits, commanded to or otherwise.

He's very good with other dogs of all sizes once introduced. On walks, if they’re at all aggressive, he hates them. We’re working with him on that. (We’re pretty sure he was used as either a bait dog or a training dog, so angry caution towards aggressive dogs makes sense. He plays fine with our dog and has with other dogs, but only once they’ve been introduced by someone he trusts.) He tends to be submissive, but if he's much bigger, he will be a very gentle alpha. He lives with our 100lb mix and has spent the weekend with our families old miniature Dachshund and Mini-Pin/Shepherd four month old puppy. We have birds and he's good with them. With training, he might even be okay around rodents, but right now he loves chasing squirrels. Cats are a NO NO, though. He is super sweet and loves people.".

You can contact his foster mom by emailing givememybook@yahoo.com for more information on how he can become part of your family.
