My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Georgia: 5-yr-old, 80-lb, spayed black lab

I’m a happy, healthy female black lab with a smiling face that greets you at the side of the bed in the morning. I love all the things Labradors love: retrieving that ball, going swimming, rolling around on my back and waving my feet in the air. Cats are not a problem for me, and I get along with other dogs very well (even my foster parents’ crabby old pack!). My owners reluctantly surrendered me because those little human twins, whose company I enjoyed, left little time for walks and visits to the dog park. I do have a little extra weight around my middle, but my foster parents keep me moving, and already my girlish figure is returning! My shots are current (medical records available), and I have always been well treated, as my personality shows. I would fit very well into a family with children, and be a good companion for an active life. I even have hiking boots!

I also have an “aura” in the past, I had some scary grand mal epileptic seizures, but it may have been a phase that’s coming to an end, since I haven’t had one for some time. My owner thought it might be an environmental issue, and at my foster’s house, in spite of all the changes, I’m seizure-free. Two veterinarians agreed that my seizures aren’t frequent enough to require medication. But don’t let my occasional seizures dissuade you from taking me on – I have so many, many upsides.

PS. If you cannot tell by my photos, I really love fetching and playing with balls. I hope you have a few hours each day for this – hah!

What my foster family thinks: If we didn’t already have 3 dogs, we’d keep this lovely girl! She is a ray of sunshine in black, with a glossy, healthy coat and a positive attitude. When you pet her, she purrs! She knows basic commands, and after 5 years with good owners, she walks with you on leash or off, and gets along with our menagerie of dogs and cats. She’s submissive in social interactions, and though she is now carrying a few extra pounds, with daily exercise (GET THE BALL, GEORGIA!), she’s already looking slimmer. She rarely barks, greets everyone with a smile, and stays close (maybe a bit insecure after leaving her family just a week ago). Several visitors have already expressed an interest, and the seizures (an intimidating prospect), may indeed be a passing phase. When people meet Georgia, we hear stories of similar episodes in the past that tapered off and haven’t recurred.

What Georgia’s GGLRR rep says: As Georgia is a special-needs dog due to her occasional seizures, her future owners need to be special and considerate humans. Georgia will pay back her new owners ten-fold for the care and loving home she deserves.

Georgia is located in Vacaville.

(Please keep in mind we are all volunteers, most of us work full time and we all have personal lives. I do call everyone back within 2-3 days so please be patient and I will be back in touch with you. When the dogs are in foster homes then it may take longer as we need to touch base with the fosters for updates on the dogs. We work very hard to make the right matches for the dogs and for the new owners. We get 3-5 dogs per week and we do not have a facility that we keep the dogs housed in. They are scattered all over the Bay Area.)
