Here's what the humans have to say about me:
AUGUSTUS, Gus, is an 8 month old black neutered male. Gus is cute, sweet, and still thinks he fits in a lap. However, he is not big, probably only about 50 lbs. He loves people and other dogs, but is some times a little shy for the first minute or so when meeting someone new. He knows his commands (sit, shake [paws], down, stay, come), both by voice and by hand signals. He is getting better at the command to leave it. He learned these in his puppy training classes. He loves to play ball but doesn't always get the drop [the ball] command when he brings it back to you. He is used to and loves jumping 2 low jumps when retrieving and returning the ball. He will also play ball in the house by himself, holding one tennis ball in his mouth while moving another one on the floor with his front paws. He loves the water, especially drinking it out of the outside spigot, or from the hose or from the end of the watering can. He has been to the local creek and loves it, but it is not deep enough to swim in. But I'm sure he would learn to swim quickly. He is good getting baths and OK getting his nails clipped by us, but perfectly fine when they get clipped at the vets. He loves going to the vets because he thinks the other dogs are there to play with him. He loves car rides and is trained to wait and go in and out of the car only on the passenger side.
He would like an active household with another dog. Although he is active like any lab puppy, he does like an afternoon nap, especially during hot weather as he prefers the cooler temperatures. He sleeps on the bed and loves his morning face and ear rub. He also loves to run after the wildlife for something to do (fox, squirrels, rabbits, birds at the feeder), but he does not hunt or kill. He just likes the chase. When he gets the scent of something, he conveniently loses his hearing and will not come when called. He can also find a way out of a wire fence to go and play with other dogs or just chase something. Like a lot of puppies, everything goes in his mouth and he tries chewing it, but it is usually one try per item and done. Gus is approved for kids aged 10 and up.
This dog is available for adoption from Lab Rescue LRCP. The rescue has around 50 dogs available for adoption.
If you are interested in adopting, please visit www.lab-rescue.org and complete an adoption application. Within a few days of submitting an application you will hear from an Adoption Coordinator who will guide you through the adoption process.
