My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Jilly is such a happy and playful puppy. She adores people and has kisses for everyone she meets. She is potty trained and knows basic commands like Sit and Down. Jilly can Shake and is doing well on her leash when out for walks. She sleeps on a dog bed at night and has free roam of the house if her foster mom is out for short errands. Otherwise, Jilly is baby gated in the kitchen when her foster is away for longer periods.

Jilly loves, loves, loves the water. She has a kiddie pool in the yard and jumps in and out like a crazy girl. She likes to rescue her toys from the pool and takes them out one by one. Jilly also likes to explore the yard with her foster brothers. And even though she loves to chase her foster brothers around the yard, Jilly can keep herself busy by playing with her toys. She is such a content and happy girl who appreciates everything life has to offer her. (Especially, a comfy dog bed and apple flavored dog treats.)

Jilly occasionally has minor issues with her coordination. We assume she has had this issue since she was born. The majority of the time you wouldn’t even notice that Jilly is different. You should see her run up a big set of stairs! 99% of the time she is flawless. But you do notice her coordination issue when she gets really excited. She will have a little head wobble and she has some trouble navigating her actions. For example, if she gets really excited about getting a tasty treat she may overreach for the treat. (Think drunk cookie monster.) Same with a new toy – if you throw it for her, she may run past it a few steps. And that flight of stairs….. if she sees a new person who has come to visit her, she may miss a step or two. The good thing about her disorder is that it shouldn't get worse. While her situation probably won't ever vanish, Jilly will continue to adjust to her situation.

The really good thing is that her condition does not cause any intellectual impairment. Jilly is such a bright little pup! And her little head wobbles and lack of coordination means that she will always look like a clumsy little puppy. Jilly’s foster mom says that when Jilly looks at her with her head wobble it looks like she is saying, Wazzup?!

Jilly is estimated to be about 7 months old and weighs about 25 pounds. Since we don't know at all what doggy genes are in the dogs make up (we don't know who mom and dad are!), we are just guessing on breed and size when grown.

All dogs are spayed or neutered and microchipped prior to adoption. They have all had a vet exam, are up to date on vaccinations, have been given a dewormer, are treated for fleas, have a heartworm test if over 6 months old and are up to date on a heartworm preventative.

Please note that because we require a home visit at the time of adoption we can only place animals in homes within a 60 mile radius of Minneapolis. If you are interested in meeting this dog please fill out the pre-adoption application on our website at www.safehandsrescue.org under Adopt and we will get back to you to arrange a meeting in the foster home.

We also have an Adoptable Dog Meet & Greet on Saturday August 9, 2014, at Fetch Delivers Warehouse, at their new location, 783 Harding St. NE. Suite 150, Minneapolis, MN 55413, from noon - 2 pm. Occasionally dogs cannot make it to the Meet & Greet, therefore feel free to verify if your dog of interest is able to attend. Please bring a copy of your pre-adoption application.
