Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Goma is a 13 year old special needs sesame Shiba Inu. He lived his first 13 years in a home with other dogs until his owner could no longer take care of them. Unfortunately he didn’t receive appropriate treatment for glaucoma; although the pain is finally gone, he is now blind and will need special care from a loving owner who will be his eyes and provide a safe environment. He was briefly adopted out but his owners didn’t keep him on DC SIR’s nutrition and training regimen, so they returned him to the rescue with some additional health and behavioral issues. Because of this unfortunate setback, he will need to be adopted out to a home that will rebuild his intrinsic trust in people. He is careful in new places, but likes to smell and explore—a home without stairs to an outside fenced yard would be perfect for this senior shiba!
He is ok with most cats and most dogs but will need to be tested with resident pets. Children are OK if they have been taught to be respectful of dogs.
Please research the breed before applying for Goma. The Shiba Inu is not for everyone.
Because Goma is such a special dog, DCSIR is willing to consider adoptive homes outside the immediate DC area.

UPDATE: Goma continues to do well with other mellow dogs, although he would much prefer to sit outside, relax, and listen to what's going on around him. He loves tromping around outside, even breaking into a decent trot, when given enough open space. He'll alternate between trotting, munching on grass, and napping. Although Goma is blind, he is very capable of moving around independently. He loves cuddles and neck scratches!
