See this beautiful face? Recently, when we were down pulling dogs from the Phelan Abuse/Hoarding Case at the Devore Shelter, we met this girl. As we were checking out, she was checking in. There was a story of a divorce, and a desire to drop her at a "no kill" shelter, and even after it was explained to the woman that her senior girl would be killed the next morning, her 'human' opted to leave her behind, because she 'could not think of any other options.'
This poor, timid girl was shaking uncontrollably. Everything she knew was gone and she was hours from her end - and she knew it - in a place that smells like fear.
Well, that was not going to happen on our watch.
Maggie May is a stunning, seven year old, shy girl that is still trying to figure out what exactly transpired. Some pups bounce back quickly, others appear to 'take it personally' when they are dumped. Her first days with us were so difficult as Maggie May was SO depressed. She did not wish to move, let alone leave the house. Fear, certainly, that she would be abandoned yet again.
She is showing us signs of getting comfortable now.
She is a Love.
This quiet, gentle, and shy girl needs a family that will offer her Nurturing, Kindness - and obviously - Stability.
Maggie May is a reminder that we need to encourage/educate others that a commitment to our companion animals is for LIFE. Sure there was care in Maggie's former life, that is not the point. We are not here to bash anyone's choices, but need to remind that there are always BETTER solutions. These poor Abandoned Souls do not understand divorce, or drama, and rely on us for Protection.
