My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

If you are interested in adopting, please send us an e-mail requesting an Application Form. Vet and personal references will be checked and a home visit is required. Also, a minimum 6' high fenced yard is required to adopt Luna and Sasha. Invisible fences are NOT acceptable. Sasha and Luna are not in the Closer to Home Animal Advocates program. We are assisting their owners with finding them a new home. Following is the information provided by their owners and we are seeking a home that will be able to keep both girls together.

How old are the dogs? 9

How much does the dog weigh? Approximately 55 pounds

Is the dog spayed/neutered? spayed

Are vaccinations up to date? As of what date? Yes 8/3/14

What is the date of the last heartworm test? June 2014

Has the dog been kept on monthly heartworm preventative? If yes, what kind. Yes heart guard

Does the dog have any health condition(s) which require regular medication, supplements, or testing? Luna does not. Sasha is hypothyroid and takes a twice daily thyroid replacement medication

How long have you had the dog? 8 ½ years

Please describe the dog’s general personality/demeanor: Both of the girls have wonderfully loving personalities. They crave attention and are wonderful with all people including very young children (we have 3 ranging from 6 months-4yr). Luna and Sasha are best of friends and enjoy playing with other dogs as well. They love the wilderness, snow, hiking, and swimming. They are wonderful companions and love to exercise we often take them roller blading (although Sasha is slowing down a bit), walking, hiking, running, and sledding (they both have pulling harnesses and love to pull our kids on sleds)

How does the dog interact with adults? Wonderfully!!

How does the dog react to strangers? Both Luna and Sasha are wonderful with crowds, new people, new children…anybody.

Have you ever seen aggression (or warning signs) toward a person? (This includes nipping, growling, snapping, etc.) Provide details. Neither dog has ever displayed any type of aggression towards a person…they tolerate having their food moved, hands placed in their food bowl while eating, you can take a half chewed bone from them with no issue or any concern. They are equally as tolerant of children being around them while eating as well.

What kinds of toys/games does the dog enjoy? Luna loves to play fetch. Both dogs love to swim, run, and play with each other in wide open fields.

What kind of activities have you shared with your dog? (Trips to the dog park, camping, etc.) Dog parks, camping, hiking, backpacking, dog sledding, swimming, boating

Does the dog live with any other pets now? Please give age/gender/breed/size of each pet: We have the two huskies and that is all for pets. They have been around cats at the in-laws house. They were more curious of the cat than aggressive.

How does the dog do with other dogs? Any restrictions? (For example, larger dogs, smaller dogs, dominant dogs, dogs of the same sex, etc.) Sasha is wonderfully tolerant of any dogs, Luna has shown a few episodes of aggression towards other dogs when walking on a leash, however if she is introduced to another dog on neutral territory without her leash on there has never been an issue.

Has the dog been around cats? If so, how does he/she do with cats? Both dogs have been around cats at my in-laws home. The cat’s were very fearful of the animals, however the dogs never were aggressive in any way, they simply were curious. I think they would do fine in a home with cats, if the cats were accustomed to dogs (these at my in-laws had never seen a dog)

Does the dog chase other small animals? Yes; squirrels, rabbits are a favorite

Have you ever seen aggression toward other dogs, or toward cats? Provide details. Luna growls and barks if she sees another dog on a leash when she is out walking however as stated above: if she is introduced to another dog on neutral territory without her leash on there has never been an issue

Does the dog currently live indoors or outdoors? How many hours per day are spent outside? The dogs are mainly indoor animals however they do have a pen in the garage with a dog door to a run outside. They spend about 6 hours per day outside/ in their pen with dog run

Where does the dog sleep? Indoors in our bedroom on two dog beds or on our bed

Is the dog housebroken? yes

Is the dog crate-trained? Yes, although they are accustomed to a larger pen than crate for the past few years.

Where does the dog stay when you are at home? In their dog pen/ outdoor run

Has the dog been destructive in the past? Provide details. They are not destructive however they are escape artists, they have dug under chain link fences or climbed over the short chain link. We have a 6’ tall vinyl fence and have had no problem with containment.

What type of fence do you have? (Please describe – chain link, privacy, 4’, 6’, etc.) We have a 6’ tall vinyl fence and have had no problem with containment.

Does the dog try to escape? If so, please explain – jumping, climbing, digging, etc.
they are escape artists, they have dug under chain link fences or climbed over the short chain link (4’). We have a 6’ tall vinyl fence and have had no problem with containment.

Has the dog had any training, either formal or informal? Does the dog know any commands? Both have been through obedience years ago, however they know their names, come when called (however if the they have a choice between a squirrel or coming to me they’re gone) we do keep them leashed when outside of our fence. They’re great at dog park, or any large fenced in area, we just don’t trust them to come back if they had free reign of an open forest. They both know Sit, Stay, Shake, Down, and Come

How does the dog behave on a leash? They are good if they receive regular exercise however they do pull if it’s been days without any exercise.

How does the dog do in the car? Sasha is wonderful, Luna gets a lot of anxiety when on a car trip. We provide here with an anxiolytic (something like Xanax) prior to travelling and this helps immensely.

Does the dog have any known phobias, such as thunderstorms, fireworks, strangers, trips to the vet, etc.? No.
